Today feels like a breath of fresh air. 🥹

A trailer full of old, unsafe cages is finally headed to the scrap yard. These cages were no longer suitable for birds and had been taking up valuable space that could be used for the rescue.

A huge thank you to one of our adopters who reached out and connected us with someone willing to haul them away. Sometimes it’s the little acts of kindness behind the scenes that make the biggest difference.

The rescue already feels lighter, more organized, and one step closer to the vision I’ve been working toward.

Onward and upward! ❤️🦜

Little April is still on a healing journey from years of self inflicted plucking and even mutilation. Cardboard and collars have been her salvation along with daily meds, vet visits, and lots of hands on 💕

Yesterday, while Lauren was cleaning cages, Rocky decided it was the perfect time for a bath. 💦🦜

Not content with simply bathing himself, Rocky made sure Lauren participated in the experience as well.

The result was one very clean macaw and one very soaked human.

Judging by the look on his face, Rocky has absolutely no regrets and would happily repeat the event at the next scheduled cage cleaning.

Rescue life is full of surprises, and sometimes those surprises come with feathers and a built-in sprinkler system. 😂❤️

Sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most. ❤️

While I was down sick recently, I received this sweet handwritten letter in the mail from one of our followers, along with a donation for the flock.

What touched me most wasn’t the donation itself, but the fact that she took the time to sit down and write a letter. In a world of quick comments and scrolling past posts, she took the time to tell me that the educational content we share—our chop information, emergency preparedness series, and other resources—has helped her care for her 17-year-old Quaker rescue.

As a rescue owner, there are plenty of long days, difficult decisions, and moments where you wonder if what you’re doing is truly reaching people. Receiving a note like this is a reminder that it is.

Education has always been a huge part of our mission. Every nutrition post, emergency preparedness tip, care guide, and educational article is created with the hope that it helps even one bird live a healthier, safer life.

To the kind supporter who sent this letter and donation: thank you. Your words meant more than you know, and your generosity will help us continue caring for the birds who call T & A Parrot Rescue & Sanctuary home.

Thank you to everyone who follows along, learns with us, shares our posts, supports the rescue, and helps us make a difference one bird at a time. 🦜❤️

🦜 Let’s Talk About Emergency Kits
Days 11, 12 & 13 — Three More Important Emergency Supplies

As many of you know, I’ve been down and out with a nasty virus, so our emergency kit series got a little behind. Let’s catch up with three more important items every bird owner should have ready before an emergency happens.

🔦 Flashlights & Headlamps
Emergencies don’t always happen during daylight hours. Power outages, severe weather, evacuations, escaped birds, and late-night medical emergencies can leave you trying to care for your bird in the dark. Having a reliable flashlight or headlamp can make a stressful situation much easier and safer to manage.

☎️ Veterinary Information
When an emergency happens, you don’t want to waste valuable time searching for phone numbers.

Keep the following information readily available:
• Primary avian veterinarian
• Emergency veterinarian
• After-hours emergency clinic
• Poison control information
• Emergency contacts

Store this information in your phone, near your bird room, and inside your emergency kit.

📋 Medical Logs & Weight Records
A gram scale is a wonderful tool, but the information is only useful if you keep track of it.

Consider maintaining:
• Regular weight records
• Medication schedules
• Medical history
• Surgery or procedure dates
• Illness and recovery notes

These records can help you identify changes sooner and provide valuable information to your veterinarian during an emergency.

Being prepared isn’t about expecting something to go wrong. It’s about having the information and tools needed to act quickly if it does.

Today was such a productive day, even though I’m still not feeling quite like myself.

My volunteer Lucas showed up with his little assistant, and one of our original volunteers, Lauren, brought her mini-me along too. As luck would have it, the girls are exactly the same age, so they had a wonderful time keeping each other company while Lucas and Lauren took on cage-scrubbing duty.

Having help with the cages gave me the chance to catch up on some of the behind-the-scenes rescue tasks that had piled up while I’ve been under the weather, including mixing dry food for the flock and checking several overdue chores off the list.

I’m definitely feeling a bit better than I was a few days ago, but I’m still moving slower than usual. Having those extra helping hands today made such a difference and allowed us to accomplish far more than I could have on my own.

A heartfelt thank you to Lucas, Lauren, and their little assistants for helping keep the rescue running smoothly today. Your kindness, time, and support mean more than you know. 🖤🐦

🚫 Please Do Not Feed Your Parrot Salted Nuts

Every time I turn around, I find bags of lightly salted or heavily salted nuts that arrive with surrendered birds.

While many parrots enjoy nuts as a healthy treat, salt is not healthy for birds. Their bodies are much smaller than ours and are not designed to process large amounts of sodium. Regular consumption of salty foods can contribute to serious health issues, including dehydration, kidney problems, high blood pressure, and other complications.

When choosing nuts for your bird, always look for:
✅ Unsalted
✅ Unseasoned
✅ No added oils, flavorings, or coatings

The only ingredient should be the nut itself.

A healthy treat today can help prevent a veterinary emergency tomorrow. Please take a moment to check the ingredient labels on the nuts you are feeding your flock.

Your bird may love salty snacks, but that doesn’t mean they’re safe. 🦜❤️

I appreciate all the kind words, prayers, and check-ins.

I managed to push through the morning chores and get all the critters taken care of, but since then I’ve been curled up on the couch under my favorite blanket trying to sleep off whatever terrible virus has decided to move in.

I honestly don’t know what this is, but it’s absolutely awful. It feels like the flu and strep throat teamed up and decided to attack at the same time. I’m extremely weak, achy, and worn down. At this point, even simple things like standing up feel like a major chore.

I’m hoping this is the worst of it because I honestly can’t imagine feeling much worse than I do right now. I’m praying there’s only one direction left to go from here, and that’s up.

For now, it’s back to sleep for me. I just wanted everyone to know I’m still kicking over here.

The flock is doing just fine and, interestingly enough, they seem quieter than usual. I swear they know Momma is sick. ❤️

Thank you all for the continued prayers, support, and patience while I rest and recover.

We hit 3,500 followers!!!! 🎉🦜💙

I never dreamed we would grow as quickly as we have. When you do the right thing, your glow up turns out amazing. I’m beyond thankful for every supporter, volunteer, adopter, foster, donor, and every single person that believes in our mission.

Not all rescues are good, just like not all people are good. But one thing I can proudly say is that me and my team always try to be the best we can be every single day for these birds. We may not be the biggest or “best” rescue in the world, but our hearts are in this 100%, and we truly care about every life that comes through our doors. ❤️

I also want to give a huge shout out to all the neighboring rescues that work alongside us as a team. Rescue work is not easy, and having support and guidance means everything.

A VERY special shout out to my momma’s rescue, T&A Parrot Rescue, for teaching me the ropes and sharing all your experience with me. You helped shape Breezy Parrot Rescue into what it is today, and I’m forever grateful. 🫶

And of course, thank you to our amazing vet, Dr. Treese (Stephen) and the staff at All Pets Animal Hospital for always squeezing our flock in and helping our rescue friends when emergencies happen. You guys are hands down the best vet team we know, and we appreciate you more than words can explain. 🩺🦜

Thank you all for helping Breezy Parrot Rescue continue to grow and save lives. This is only the beginning. 💙✨

If you’ve noticed I’ve been a little absent recently, it’s because I’m really sick.

It takes a lot for me to admit when I’m not feeling well, but this one has hit me pretty hard. Between the congestion, coughing, headaches, and just feeling completely worn down, I’ve been struggling more than I’d like to admit.

That said, rescue life doesn’t stop. The birds still need cared for, the chores still need done, and daily operations continue whether I’m feeling great or feeling awful.

Even while under the weather, we completed an adoption yesterday and welcomed two birds into rescue today.

The first is a Green Cheek Conure that was in a foster home. Sadly, the placement didn’t work out—not because of anything the bird did. In fact, it was a wonderful fit for the family in many ways. However, there were other pets in the home that were not accepting of the bird, and before there was any chance for an injury to occur, everyone agreed it was best to make a change. As always, our priority is the bird’s long-term safety and success. We are heartbroken for the family because they truly cared about this little bird, but they also wanted what was best for him.

We also welcomed a sweet Cockatiel into rescue today. This little bird loves to fly, enjoys spending time with people, and has a wonderful personality. I’m looking forward to getting to know him better and helping him find the right home.

For now, my main goal is to get some extra rest so I can recover sooner rather than later. All of the normal daily care is still being completed, but behind the scenes I’ve also been working on making things more efficient around the rescue. There are several projects underway to improve spaces for the birds and make daily operations run a little smoother.

Hopefully, with some rest today and tomorrow, I’ll be back to feeling more like myself by the weekend. We may have a few more birds arriving this weekend, and hopefully a few heading out to their forever homes as well.

If you currently have an application submitted and need me to review it, please send a message to the page. I have fallen a little behind while being sick, but I am working my way through them as quickly as possible.

Current birds seeking placement now or in the near future:

🦜 4 Congo African Greys
🦜 1 Timneh African Grey
🦜 1 Blue & Gold Macaw
🦜 1 Yellow-Naped Amazon
🦜 1 Nanday Conure
🦜 1 Hybrid Conure
🦜 1 Turquoise Green Cheek Conure
🦜 1 Yellow-Sided Green Cheek Conure
🦜 1 Jenday Conure
🦜 1 Cockatiel

And gentlemen, if you’ve ever considered adopting a parrot, now may be the time to apply. We currently have several wonderful birds who seem to prefer men and would love to find the right match.

Thank you all for your patience, support, and understanding while I take a little time to recover. ❤️
