Germantown Fire Department We are an all-hazards combination municipal fire department dedicated to providing exceptional emergency and essential services to our customers.

The Germantown Fire Department consists of 92 paid personnel and approximately 25 reserve fire fighters serving from 4 fire stations, staffing 4 engine companies, 3 ambulances and 1 truck company daily. The department provides a wide-range of emergency and essential services including but not limited to fire suppression, emergency medical response, hazardous materials response, special operations

rescue (confined space, trench, high-angle, water, swift water, and urban search and rescue), emergency management, and public fire safety education.

Today is a big day for Zach Thorn as he begins his first shift as a newly promoted Driver with the Germantown Fire Department!

Making the day even more memorable, Zach’s wife and sons were there to celebrate this milestone with him, with his wife having the honor of pinning on his new Driver badge. ❤️

Earning a promotion is a reflection of the time, effort, and commitment put into preparing for the next level. Zach has worked hard to reach this milestone, and we’re excited to see what he brings to his new role.

🏴‍☠️ Arrr… we’re not ready to reveal too much just yet. 👀

On Monday, members of L.A.F.S. (Learning About Fire Safety) gathered to begin planning this year’s Fire Prevention Week skit. While the performances may look like a whole lot of fun (and they are!), there’s plenty of planning, creativity and teamwork that goes on behind the scenes.

For years, our “clowns from the fire department” have used humor, characters and a little bit of silliness to teach children important fire and life safety lessons. L.A.F.S. firefighters bring these performances to Germantown students during Fire Prevention Week in October, making fire safety education engaging and memorable.

This year’s theme is… well, let’s just say there may be some high seas ahead. 🌊🤫

The 2026 Tennessee State Fire Marshal's Office Poster Contest is open to students in kindergarten through 12 grade.

This year's theme challenges students to show their creativity while teaching others about safely buying, charging and recycling lithium-ion batteries:

⚡Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower⚡

The best part? Your artwork could be selected as one of 14 statewide winning posters!

🚨 September is National Preparedness Month!

Disasters don’t make appointments. When an emergency happens, having a plan can help your family stay connected and know exactly what to do.

For Week 1, Germantown Fire Department is challenging our community to Make a Plan. 📝

📱 Pick an out-of-state contact.

Local cell networks can become overwhelmed during an emergency. Choose a friend or family member outside the area who everyone can contact to check in.

📍 Choose TWO meeting places.

➡️ One close to home for emergencies like a house fire.

➡️ One outside your neighborhood in case you can’t safely return to your area.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Your challenge this week: Sit down as a family, choose your contact and meeting places, and make sure everyone knows the plan — especially your kids.

🔥 GERMANTOWN, ARE YOU READY?

Before this week is over, take 10 minutes and make your family’s emergency plan. Don’t wait until the power is out, the phones aren’t working, or you’re being told to evacuate to figure out where everyone should go.

Make the plan. Share the plan. Practice the plan.

⚠️ HEADS UP — SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY ⛈️

Most of the Mid-South is under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather tomorrow, Wednesday, August 26.

The greatest risk is mainly along and west of the Mississippi River, but strong storms are possible across our area.

⏰ We could see two rounds of storms Wednesday:

🌧️ Morning | 6 AM – Noon
The first round could bring thunderstorms and some strong, gusty winds. Severe weather is not expected to be the main concern during the morning.

⛈️ Late Afternoon & Evening | 5 PM – Midnight
This is the round we’ll be watching more closely. Storms that develop later in the day could be stronger, with damaging winds being the biggest concern.

⚠️ There is still some uncertainty about exactly how Wednesday will play out. This is not the same setup we experienced Saturday, but some storms could still pack a punch.

Bottom line: Don’t be caught off guard. Keep an eye on the weather Wednesday, especially during the late afternoon and evening.

📱 Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
🔋 Keep your phone charged.
🏠 Know where you’ll go if a warning is issued.
🚨 Don’t rely only on outdoor warning sirens.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on the forecast and share updates as needed.

⚠️ Generator Safety Reminder ⚠️

Following last night’s storm, the Germantown Fire Department has responded to several calls involving portable generators placed too close to homes. In some cases, generator exhaust has been pulled into the home, causing carbon monoxide (CO) alarms to activate.

Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless and potentially deadly gas. Never operate a generator inside a home, garage, carport or other enclosed or partially enclosed space. Place portable generators outdoors, well away from doors, windows and vents, so exhaust cannot enter your home.

If your CO alarm sounds, get outside to fresh air immediately and call 911. Do not ignore the alarm or assume it is a false alarm.

Please take a few minutes to review the generator safety tips in the graphic below and share this reminder with friends and neighbors who may be using a generator following the storm.

Germantown's young artists have a new mission: show us your fire safety superpower!

The Tennessee State Fire Marshal's Office is now accepting entries for its 20206 Poster Contest and this year's theme is:

⚡Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower ⚡

The contest is open to all students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Students are challenged to create an original poster showing what safe charging and battery safety mean to them.

14 state winners will be selected, and each winner will receive a $50 check, certificate, prize bag and invitation to the state awards ceremony in Nashville.

Celebrating a Life Saved!

Outcomes like this are why we wear the badge.

Congratulations to E94 A-Shift Lt./Paramedic Josh Waterbury, Driver/Paramedic Edmund Rucker, Firefighter/Paramedic Carlton Kline, U54 A-Shift Firefighter/Paramedic Paul Halford, and Firefighter/AEMT Zach Meza on receiving the Survival to Discharge Award for their outstanding care of a patient experiencing a life-threatening emergency.

Because of their rapid response, expert clinical care, and teamwork, the patient not only survived but recovered and was able to leave the hospital and return home.

This recognition represents the outcome every first responder hopes for—a life saved and a family able to welcome their loved one home. ❤️

You can be part of the chain of survival, too.

When someone experiences cardiac arrest, immediate bystander CPR can double or even triple their chance of survival. You don’t have to be a medical professional to make a difference. Learning Hands-Only CPR takes less than a minute, and those few simple steps could help save a life.
