📍 ATV/UTV ROUTE MAP UPDATE & IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION 📍

We've received several questions regarding the newly opened ATV/UTV routes, so we are sharing an updated, easier-to-read route map.

Please take a moment to review the map before riding and ensure you remain on designated routes.

We have also received questions regarding electric dirt bikes and other motorized vehicles.

Wisconsin law recognizes Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 electric bicycles. To qualify as an electric bicycle, the vehicle must have fully operative pedals, an electric motor of 750 watts or less, and meet the requirements established for one of those three classes.

Many of the electric dirt bikes and "e-motos" we have seen in the community do not have operable pedals and do not meet Wisconsin's definition of an electric bicycle. As a result, they are not treated the same as bicycles or e-bikes under Wisconsin law.

To help simplify things:

✅ ATVs and UTVs may operate on designated and signed Village ATV/UTV routes in accordance with state law and Village ordinance.

✅ Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 electric bicycles may be operated where bicycles are otherwise permitted.

❌ Electric dirt bikes, e-motos, and similar vehicles that do not meet Wisconsin's definition of an electric bicycle are not considered e-bikes simply because they are electric and are not permitted to operate on public roads.

⚠️ Riders operating e-motos or other motorized vehicles that are not legally authorized for roadway use may be subject to enforcement action, including citations and the towing of the vehicle.

Our goal is to help everyone enjoy the outdoors safely while ensuring all users understand which vehicles are permitted on Village routes and roadways.

If you are unsure whether your vehicle qualifies as an ATV, UTV, electric bicycle, or another type of motor vehicle, we encourage you to review Wisconsin law and contact us with questions before operating it on public property.

Thank you for helping keep Germantown's roads, trails, and neighborhoods safe for everyone.

Good Morning☀️

Attached is a water💦 shut off schedule for this Saturday, June 13th at 6:30pm through Sunday, June 14th at 2:30am. The entire area on the attached map will be required to be shut off in order to replace a broken fire hydrant located at N112W19515 MEQUON RD.

Exciting things are happening at GPD!

We are pleased to share several staffing updates within our department.

First, we would like to thank Officer Adam Bartelt for his outstanding service over the past two years as our Crime Prevention Officer/Investigator. In this role, Officer Bartelt made a significant impact by supporting both our department and the community through his dedication and professionalism. While he is transitioning out of this position, residents will still see him serving our community on patrol.

We would also like to recognize Officer Toni Olson, who is “graduating” from the school setting after 15 years as a School Resource Officer. The commitment, passion, and care Officer Olson brought to this role and the strong relationships she built with students and staff over the years have been truly exceptional and greatly appreciated.

As she begins this next chapter, Officer Olson and her partner, Therapy K9 Archie, will be stepping into the role of Community Policing Officer. Together, they will continue strengthening connections throughout our community and will be actively involved in a wide variety of community engagement initiatives.

Finally, we are excited to announce that Officer Jayna Schmittinger will assume the role of School Resource Officer beginning with the 2026–2027 school year with primary placement in the High School. We look forward to seeing Officer Schmittinger build upon the strong foundation of this program and make a positive impact within our schools.

Please join us in congratulating Officers Bartelt, Olson, and Schmittinger as they begin these new chapters in their careers. We are grateful for their continued dedication to serving our community.

🚨 ATV/UTV ROUTES NOW OPEN IN THE VILLAGE OF GERMANTOWN 🚨

After extensive planning and coordination, designated ATV/UTV routes are now open in the Village of Germantown, providing residents and visitors with a new opportunity to enjoy responsible outdoor recreation while safely connecting to surrounding route systems

A map of the approved routes is attached to this post. We encourage all operators to review the map and familiarize themselves with the designated routes before heading out.

As ATV and UTV traffic increases, we ask everyone to help make this a safe and successful program by keeping the following in mind:

✅ Obey all traffic laws, signs, and signals.

✅ Operate at safe and lawful speeds.

✅ Yield to pedestrians and be mindful of bicyclists and other roadway users.

✅ Ensure your ATV/UTV is properly registered and equipped as required by law.

✅ Complete any required safety certification and carry required documentation.

✅ Respect private property and remain on designated routes.

This program represents a partnership between the Village, residents, and visitors who share a common goal of enjoying our community responsibly. Whether you're heading out for a short ride, connecting to neighboring routes, or exploring the outdoors with family and friends, safety and courtesy help ensure these routes remain a positive asset for everyone.

As with any new program, there may be questions as riders become familiar with the approved routes and regulations. Our focus and commitment will be on education and helping operators understand how to safely and legally utilize the route system.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation and look forward to seeing residents and visitors enjoy this new recreational opportunity responsibly

Please review the attached route map and Village ordinance before riding.

Protecting Kinderberg Park for Future Generations
The Germantown Police Department has recently installed a security camera at Kinderberg Park.
Our concern is ensuring Kinderberg Park remains a safe and welcoming place for residents while protecting taxpayer-funded amenities from repeated vandalism and damage. Over the years, the park has experienced multiple incidents that have resulted in costly repairs and replacement of public property.
To address these concerns, a security camera has been installed in the park. The camera records activity in the same manner as many security cameras used throughout our community at schools, businesses and public facilities. The camera does not read license plates and does not have license plate recognition capabilities.
Access to the camera is limited to sworn police officers and is used only for legitimate law enforcement and investigative purposes. When crimes occur, video evidence can help officers identify those responsible, hold offenders accountable and assist in recovering costs associated with damage.
Our perspective is simple: we hope this camera serves as a deterrent to future vandalism, helps preserve a community asset that is enjoyed by thousands of residents each year and reduces repair costs ultimately borne by taxpayers.
Kinderberg Park belongs to our community. This investment is intended to help protect it for everyone who uses and enjoys it.
