OPEN MEETINGS ACT - NEB.REV.STAT. CHAPTER 84, ARTICLE 14
As required by State Law, public bodies shall make available current copies of the Open Meetings Act in the meeting room; copies are available on the counter by the press corps. Agenda items may be moved up or down on the agenda at the discretion of the Mayor. As required by State Law, additions may not be made to this agenda less than 24 hours before the beginning of the meeting unless they are considered under this section of the agenda and Council determines that the matter requires emergency action.

1. Public hearing for the purpose of hearing support, opposition, criticism, suggestions or observations of taxpayers related to the Fiscal Year 2026/2027 Proposed Budget

🚂 NOTICE: TEMPORARY TRAIN HORN USE AT COUNTRY CLUB ROAD CROSSING

The automated horn system at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing on Country Club Road has failed and cannot be repaired.

A replacement system has been ordered; however, delivery and installation are expected to take approximately 6–8 weeks. Until the new system is installed and operational, trains will be required to sound their horns as they approach the Country Club Road crossing.

We understand the additional train noise may be disruptive and appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while the system is replaced.

You’ll work with water and sewer systems, operate equipment, maintain pumps and facilities, make repairs, monitor systems, and help keep essential City services running. High school diploma/GED required. Must be 18 or older. CDL and Grade 4 Water Operator’s License required or obtainable.

🚧 TEMPORARY WATER SHUTOFF NOTICE 🚧

The City of Gering Water Department will temporarily shut off water near 3rd Street and T Street and 4th Street and T Street to complete necessary repairs.

The water is expected to be off for approximately 1½ hours.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while crews complete this work.

Next station: Legacy of the Plains Museum! The caboose will find its new home there as part of a railroad exhibit, keeping our local history rolling for generations to come.

🚧 TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF WEST U STREET 🚧

The City of Gering would like to inform residents that West U Street, from Five Rocks Road to the Common Grounds Dog Park, will be temporarily closed for a water main replacement.

📅 Closure begins: Friday, August 28, at 2:30 p.m.
📅 Expected reopening: Sunday, August 30, at 12:00 noon

🐾 The Common Grounds Dog Park will remain accessible by using Canal Road.

Drivers and pedestrians are asked to use caution in the area and plan to take an alternate route. Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
