This morning, we joined Colorado State Patrol and members of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office for a promotional video shoot for Special Olympics Colorado. The video will promote the Law Enforcement Torch Run, a fundraising event that partners law enforcement agencies and officers with Special Olympic athletes. For the video, we were honored to run alongside athletes Noah and Hayden.

These two athletes are participating in the deadlift competition during this weekend's Special Olympics Summer Games in Grand Junction. Good luck Noah and Hayden!

On the last day of school, we had the honor of recognizing School Resource Officer Campbell for 30 years of service with the Sheriff's Office! 🎉Woohoo SRO Campbell! 🎉 That's quite a feat - even more so when you consider 24 of those years have been as the SRO at Clear Creek High School (and Middle School).

We can't say enough good things about our SRO, but Sheriff Thornton sums it up well: "He is a mentor, a protector, a counselor, a coach, and - for many students - a trusted adult they can count on when life becomes difficult." 💕We love you SRO Campbell and we look forward to many more years of your consistency and compassion caring for Clear Creek's kids.

Congratulations and thank you for 30 years and counting!

Some of you may remember our challenge coin mural project in the jail. One of our inmates, Mr. Rollins, has recently completed his second coin - former Sheriff Harris's challenge coin. We really appreciate Mr. Rollins' help with sprucing up the walls in the jail, and apparently the feeling is mutual. He recently wrote a letter to staff regarding his positive experience while he's been with us. In it he states, "I have been the artist for these murals so far and I wanted to say thank you for permitting me to work on them. They give me hope and motivation for my future."

Mr. Rollins will be working on Sheriff Thornton's coin next and we can't wait to see how nice that one turns out also!

Folks, we're in a Stage 1 Fire Ban. Despite snow and rain during May, Clear Creek County still meets fire restriction criteria. Therefore, slash burns are illegal right now. Yesterday, we issued a court summons for this 👇 slash burn in the area of the transfer station, off of Soda Creek. We responded along with Clear Creek Fire Authority after multiple parties reported seeing smoke around 4:45pm.

We understand the desire to burn slash, but while recent moisture may seem like a good opportunity to burn, residents need to know fire restriction status before burning. There are many ways to stay informed of current fire restrictions:
🔴 Fire ban alerts: register for alerts at https://www.clearcreekcounty.us/list.aspx; scroll down to "Fire Ban" under Alert Center
🔴 County website: https://www.clearcreekcounty.us (top of every page shows any current restrictions)
🔴 County & Sheriff's Office social media sites
🔴 Signage on local roads throughout the county

USFS land is also under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in our county. The ONLY open burning allowed under Stage 1 is campfires in a permanent metal or concrete fire ring/pit in designated campsites on USFS land.

Please, let's all work together to ensure a fire-free season in Clear Creek County.

REMINDER: Tomorrow, June 3, there will be a test of the Lookout Alert emergency notification system for Clear Creek County. The test begins in the morning (we don't have an exact time) and will include the Wireless Emergency Alert system, WEA. Testing Lookout Alert and WEA improves the ability to send timely, accurate, and actionable information during an emergency.

If you are registered for Lookout Alert, you may receive a test message(s) on Wednesday via text, phone call, and/or email. If you are not registered, we encourage all residents to register at lookoutalert.com. WEA does not require registration.

Not every person will receive every type of alert during the test. Delivery may depend on device settings, wireless carrier participation, phone location, registration information, and other technical factors. Receiving or not receiving a test message does not necessarily mean a phone or account is not working.
