Every oyster shell recycled helps restore our coast. By recycling shells, we can rebuild oyster reefs that improve water quality, reduce erosion, and create habitat for marine life.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Septic Think Tank this week. We were excited to welcome over 120 participants from across South Carolina for a day focused on wastewater, septic systems, water quality, and community solutions.

The agenda included discussions on septic system management, regulatory updates, funding opportunities, decentralized wastewater approaches, water quality impacts, resilience planning, and innovative strategies communities can use to address septic related challenges. Attendees also heard from professionals and organizations working in environmental health, planning, engineering, and water resource management.

Events like this help bring together local governments, agencies, utilities, consultants, nonprofits, and community partners to continue important conversations about protecting water quality and planning for the future.

Thank you to all speakers, organizers, sponsors, and participants who made the event a success.

We’re proud to support safer roads in our region!

The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments’ Regional Mobility Program has provided funding for safety improvements at the intersection of Easler Highway (S-35), Holliman Road (S-80), and Old Greeleyville Road (S-593) in Williamsburg County. The project will be carried out by SCDOT.

Planned upgrades include relocating Holliman Road eastbound to better align with Old Greeleyville Road, helping improve traffic flow and reduce conflict points within the intersection. Sidewalks will also be added to enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians.

This project reflects our continued commitment to improving mobility and safety, especially in rural communities across our region.
