We are happy to announce Georgetown City Fire Department now supports the Vial of Life program! Packets are ready to be distributed to city residents today.

What is Vial of Life?

Vial of Life is an information sheet that contains all the pertinent information if fire and EMS is called to your home. Simply fill out the form, place it in the baggie and place it on your refrigerator door. Then put the sticker on your front door or window so fire/EMS can see it.

The system aids our members in finding important medical info in the event of a medical emergency. These situations are stressful and having a quickly available information sheet makes our jobs much easier.

Interested? Simply stop by City Fire Station 1 at 1405 Prince Street or call (843-545-4200) and schedule it with one of our crews and we will be happy to come out and check your smoke alarms and help you start the program.

Georgetown City Fire Department is proud to say more of our crew has gone through the training to become Child Passenger Safety Technicians. With this class complete, our entire Department is now certified. If you need assistance or training on properly installing your car seat, you are welcome to come by. Georgetown City Fire Department is here to help keep children safe on the roads.

The Georgetown City Fire Department Technical Rescue Team participated in a Training and Team building exercise this morning. The Church/Cathedral Ladder raise and climb. Team held the ladder steady as members climbed up, over, and back down the 35’ ladder. Utilized the Aerial Ladder for a safety. Good way to work on rope skills while learning to trust your team. Great job everyone!

Based on cases documented by the National Weather Service in recent years, about 30 people are killed by lightning each year and hundreds more are injured, some suffering devastating neurological injuries that persist for the rest of their lives. About two thirds of the deaths are associated with outdoor recreational activities.

Know what to do if you hear thunder or see lightning when your outside and follow the safety guidelines mentioned by our friends from FireSafeSC!

The 2026 annual fireworks display over Georgetown will take place July 4 at about 9:30 p.m. Directed by the Georgetown City Fire Department, fireworks will be set off at Morgan Park and can be seen from the Harborwalk boardwalk and other areas on the water. Morgan Park will close Friday night at 9:00 PM. Parts of Greenwich Drive and East Bay Street leading up to Morgan Park will be closed Saturday, July 4 around 0900 AM . Signs will be posted when this is in effect. Morgan Park will remain closed until the morning of July 5 and signs will remain in place until it is reopened. Please Do Not cross over or through the barricades once they are placed as those areas are closed off for the safety of our crews setting up and the public! Please do not park and block the streets as emergency vehicles may have to utilize them to respond to emergencies. Spectators are encouraged to park at East Bay Park and place blankets and chairs on the grass behind the barricades. Please do not park on the grass and follow parking rules on any posted signs. This year the fireworks display will be coordinated with music provided by Georgetown City Fire Department, WGEO-105.7 FM. We would like to thank Munnerlyn Pyrotechnics for assisting us in the safe and beautiful display of fireworks!

Make sure to follow these important tips to help prevent fires from your clothes dryer!

Lint happens. Fires don’t have to. Lint buildup can lead to a dryer fire if it’s not cleaned regularly.

• Clean the lint filter before or after each load.
• Make sure the outdoor vent flap opens when the dryer is running.
• Have a qualified service person clean the inside of the dryer cabinet and exhaust duct once a year.
