What does it take to make a community stronger? 💙
Sometimes, it starts with making sure more people have a safe, stable place to call home.

At Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, we work alongside our neighbors to make that possible in several ways. 🏡

🔨 Building affordable homes with local families working toward homeownership.

🛠️ Helping homeowners make critical repairs so they can remain safe and comfortable in the homes they already love.

💙 Offering financial coaching to help Sussex County residents work toward their financial goals.

🏘️ Bringing neighborhoods together through volunteer projects, community partnerships, and neighborhood revitalization.

And through our ReStore, every donated item and every purchase helps support this work right here in Sussex County!

There are so many ways to be part of what we do, whether you volunteer your time, donate, shop at the ReStore, or simply help spread the word.

Because a stronger community starts with people who care about the people around them. We're grateful to everyone who continues to show up for Sussex County and help make our mission possible. 💙

Last week, our Sussex County Habitat for Humanity executive team headed to Atlanta for Habitat for Humanity’s biannual conference, connecting with fellow affiliates, sharing ideas, and celebrating the work happening across the Habitat network.

This year’s gathering was especially meaningful because Habitat for Humanity is celebrating 50 years of impact! 🎉

Over the past five decades, Habitat has helped improve the lives of more than 65 million people around the world through affordable homeownership, critical home repairs, financial coaching, and other housing programs that help individuals and families build stronger futures.

We’re proud to be part of a global mission that makes a difference right here in Sussex County and around the world. And we’re coming home inspired by the people, ideas, and possibilities that will help shape the next chapter of our work.

Here’s to 50 years of impact, and to all the work still ahead! 🏡💙

Could you see yourself calling Laurel home? 🏡

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is looking for a future partner family for an upcoming home in Laurel, and this could be your opportunity to take the next step toward homeownership.

Our Homeownership Program is designed for families and individuals who are ready to put in the work to build toward a more stable future. Qualified applicants must live and/or work in Sussex County, have a steady and reliable income, demonstrate a need for adequate housing, and be willing to complete the program’s partnership requirements.

That includes financial coaching, homeownership education, sweat equity, and preparing for the responsibilities that come with owning a home. 💙

If you’ve been thinking about homeownership but aren’t sure where to start, we’d love to help you explore whether Habitat could be a good fit.

📍 Milford, then & now.

This photo popped up in our archives from last winter, when we were celebrating a triple dedication for three families in our Milford Homeownership Project. ✂️🏡

Fast forward to today, and we’re getting very close to the finish line!

Our nine-home project in downtown Milford is nearing completion, with the final two homes currently under construction and slated to be finished this winter. ❄️🔨

Nine homes. One neighborhood. And a whole lot of progress along the way.

We can’t wait to see these last two homes finished, welcome their future homeowners, and watch this community continue to take shape. 💙

Stay tuned for more updates from Milford as we head into the home stretch!

What a wonderful afternoon. 💙

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for Lunch With a Purpose/Coastal Delaware yesterday! It was such a privilege to spend the afternoon surrounded by people who care so deeply about Sussex County and believe in the importance of safe, affordable housing for our neighbors.

We were honored to hear from Haley, one of our Habitat homeowners, who shared her experience in our Homeownership Program and gave our guests a firsthand look at what the Habitat journey can mean for a family.

Our Director of Programs, Lindsay, and board member Jamie McNatt also shared more about Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, the work happening throughout our community, and what we’re looking toward in the years ahead.

And a very special thank you to Eileen, our Events Manager, who coordinated all the details that brought the afternoon together. We’re also incredibly grateful to the members of our staff and volunteer team who helped everything run smoothly behind the scenes and throughout the event. 👏

Most of all, thank you to everyone who showed up, listened, asked questions, shared in the conversation, and continues to support our mission. We left yesterday feeling incredibly grateful for the community surrounding Sussex County Habitat for Humanity.

There’s a lot to look forward to, and we’re so glad you’re part of it. 🏡💙

There’s always something new to learn on a Habitat build! 🛠️🏡

For some volunteers, a day on the build site means doing something they’ve done a hundred times. For others, it might mean picking up a power tool for the very first time.

Either way, there’s something pretty special about learning alongside your fellow volunteers, lending a hand, and watching your work become part of a home for a local family. 💙

You don’t have to be a construction expert to volunteer with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity. Bring your willingness to learn, your can-do attitude, and maybe a little patience with that drill! 😉

Research shows that for children, stable housing is connected to improved school attendance, academic achievement, and cognitive and emotional well-being. 🏡💙

The numbers tell an even bigger story:

📚 Children of lower-income homeowners are 11% more likely to graduate from high school than children of lower-income renters.

🎓 They’re also 4.5% more likely to complete post-secondary education.

A safe, affordable home can give children something incredibly important: stability. A place to do homework. A place to rest. A place to grow. A place where they can make memories and dream about what comes next.

That’s why affordable homeownership matters. The impact of a home can reach far beyond the family who holds the keys today. It can help shape opportunities for the next generation, too. 🥰🏡

A key can be a pretty small thing. But sometimes, it represents something much bigger. 🗝️🏡

This special key was signed by members of our Sussex County Habitat for Humanity team, and gets presented to each homeowner, usually by the site supervisor who helped oversee the construction of their home from the ground up.

After all the planning, hard work, sweat equity, and countless people who played a part in bringing a home to life, our homeowners get to hold the key to a place of their own.

And that’s a moment worth celebrating. 💙
