There will be one lane open northbound - we appreciate the patience as Highway Patrol and emergency services work the accident

We are aware of the accident in the northbound lanes just outside of the city. Our officers are in the area to help with traffic control. At this time we ask everyone to find alternative routes and be patient as Highway Patrol and emergency services work to clear the roadway. We will provide information as it becomes available

UPDATE: The accident scene has been cleared in. Traffic is moving smoothly again.

UPDATE FROM A READER: They are intermittently closing the south bound side to allow people to turn around.

UPDATE; Northbound traffic is shut down due to the accident.

Today we got to spend time with our YMCA Summer Program kids!

We spent time in CID, watching the drone, exploring patrol cars and going over all the police equipment used inside the police department!

And we got a whole new group of Junior Officers!

Nelson E. Brown, Chief of Police, announces arrest of Brian Daniel Johnson following a traffic stop conducted by the Georgetown Police Department on June 12, 2026.

Georgetown Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on a silver Buick SUV occupied by Brian Johnson as he was leaving the area of the 1000 block of Horry Street in Georgetown, South Carolina.

During the investigation, K-9 Vicky, a certified narcotics detection canine, was deployed and conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle. K-9 Vicky alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics.
A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 10.27 grams of methamphetamine. Officers also located drug paraphernalia, including a digital scale, hypodermic needles, and multiple glass pipes containing suspected drug residue.

As a result of the investigation, Brian Johnson was charged with:
• Trafficking Methamphetamine
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
