Georgetown Electric to Host Blood Drive

On Sept. 24, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., the City Electric Utilities Department will host a blood drive with community partner The Blood Connection.

Donors are eligible for $40 in rewards, courtesy of The Blood Connection.

To donate, visit https://donate.thebloodconnection.org/donor/schedules/sponsor_code and use Sponsor Code 12805 to register for your donation time slot.

The Blood Connection donor bus will be placed at 2520 Highmarket Street — if you wish to donate, report to that location at your reserved time.

We are happy to announce Georgetown City Fire Department now supports the Vial of Life program! Packets are ready to be distributed to city residents today.

What is Vial of Life?

Vial of Life is an information sheet that contains all the pertinent information if fire and EMS is called to your home. Simply fill out the form, place it in the baggie and place it on your refrigerator door. Then put the sticker on your front door or window so fire/EMS can see it.

The system aids our members in finding important medical info in the event of a medical emergency. These situations are stressful and having a quickly available information sheet makes our jobs much easier.

Interested? Simply stop by City Fire Station 1 at 1405 Prince Street or call (843-545-4200) and schedule it with one of our crews and we will be happy to come out and check your smoke alarms and help you start the program.

National Food Bank Day 🛒

The first Friday of September is recognized as National Food Bank Day, a time to raise awareness about hunger and honor the work of local food pantries.

We have a deep appreciation for the organization working across our city and county. Last year, the City had the honor of working with Friendship Place, Inc on an employee-led food drive. In one month, City employees donated more than 1,300 items to help local families.

In November 2026, we plan to go even BIGGER and BETTER — the City will be hosting a community food drive, so employees, residents, and visitors can join together to help those in need. (Stay tuned for those details!)

In the meantime, we hope you’ll consider supporting a food pantry that is near and dear to your heart.

Holiday Closure - Labor Day

All City of Georgetown offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, for Labor Day.

If you need to do business with the City, please plan to do so before end of day this Friday, use online or drop box resources, or visit us once we reopen next Tuesday.

There will also be no residential sanitation collection on Labor Day with the exception of the Downtown District of Front Street. This area will receive regular garbage collection so our community can continue to enjoy our shared public spaces.

‘Tis (almost) the season!🎄

Yes, it's September but the Christmas Committee has already had our first planning meeting. The Tree Lighting will be Friday, December 4 at 6:00 pm, the parade will be Saturday, December 5 at 11:00 am and the Skating Rink will be Saturday, December 12 from 12-8. Mark your calendars!
