Did you know firefighters and law enforcement officers are more likely to die by su***de than in the line of duty? The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation estimates that there are between 100 and 200 firefighter deaths by su***de each year, double the rate of the general population. However, su***de isn’t just a problem for first responders, as it is also the 2nd leading cause of death for ages 10-34 in Kentucky.
September 8th marks the start of “National Su***de Prevention Week,” and our members are taking action to raise awareness about these unfortunate statistics. Join us in making a difference wearing one of our exclusive Scott County Firefighter-designed T-shirt during the week of September 8th-14th! Each shirt is more than just a piece of clothing—it's a statement of solidarity and a beacon of hope.
University of Kentucky HealthCare is offering a free, online one-hour su***de prevention training to everyone in Kentucky. If your loved one mentioned su***de… would you know what to do? Take the free training here: https://kyqpr.ukhc.org/
Lastly, and most importantly, If you or someone you know is in crisis, please text or call 988, the National Su***de and Crisis Lifeline.
