Yesterday, members of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Unmanned Aircraft Systems Unit completed specialized training on operating Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) inside and around vehicles to better prepare for real‑world critical incidents.

This training focused on clearing vehicles with unknown risks and addressing situations involving barricaded subjects. By utilizing UASs, we can safely assess situations from a distance before sending in a deputy, officer, or K9.

As technology evolves, so do we, but our mission remains the same: enhance public safety and reduce risk for our first responders. 🤝

This year alone our deputies have responded to over 60,000 calls for service, often these calls end with a positive outcome for both community members, and the deputies responding. A concern is addressed, suspicious activity is investigated, or simply a community member is reassured; this is our duty to the public.

While we strive to provide this to every community member, not everyone is happy with the outcome of their interaction with us. That is just the nature of policing.

This is why we have Internal Affairs, a separate unit for receiving and investigating complaints from citizens against Sheriff's Deputies, Corrections Personnel, and Civilian Employees. The Office of Internal Affairs reports directly to the Sheriff and his Executive Staff of Bureau Chiefs and is solely a fact-finding entity.

All complaints received by the Sheriff's Office are routed by the severity of the complaint. The most serious types of complaints are investigated by Internal Affairs, and involve allegations such as excessive force, any discharge of fi****ms, or serious rules violations such as insubordination.

Complaints comparatively less serious in nature, such as rude behavior or improper procedure, are forwarded to the individual officer's division for investigation.

In every case, the person making the complaint will be notified of the final disposition either by telephone, email, or U.S. Mail. This is the only way to make an official complaint to our office.

Complaints can be made by filling out a Quality Assurance Form, available at https://www.wilcotx.gov/so, or you can obtain the form from a uniformed deputy, supervisor, or Administrative Assistant. Once completed, mail it in or drop it off at the Sheriff's Office. You may also complete the form, save it, and email it to [email protected].

Additionally, we have a Commendation Form, because when you receive service from the Sheriff's Office you feel is worthy of commendation, we would also like to hear about it.

Thank you and remember our deputies are here to keep the community safe! This includes investigating every call received, no matter how inconsequential it may seem.

Scam Alert 🚨

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office has received recent reports of scam phone calls impersonating our office and its personnel. They are demanding payment for missed federal jury duty, warrants, and more, or you may face immediate arrest.

This is a scare tactic used to create a false sense of urgency and trick residents into sending money.

These calls can appear official by spoofing legitimate phone numbers, using real employee names and titles, or referencing publicly available personal information.

They are NOT credible. This is a SCAM.

We would like to remind the public that law enforcement will never call or text demanding payment or personal information.

If you receive a call like this:
• Hang up IMMEDIATELY
• Do NOT send money
• Do NOT share personal information
• Report it to non-emergency dispatch at 512-864-8282 (If you are in Williamson County)

If you are ever unsure about a phone call you receive from a government agency, contact that entity directly to confirm the legitimacy of the call.

Please share this information with your friends, family, and loved ones, especially the elderly who often fall victim to these kinds of scams.

Please be advised that there is a confirmed case of New World Screwworms (NWS) infecting a bovine in Zavala County, Texas.

Texas Department of Health Services officials urge residents to keep a close eye on all warm-blooded animals. NWS primarily infests livestock, pets, wildlife, and other warm-blooded animals, including, in rare cases, humans. There is NO human-to-human transmission of NWS infestation.

If you notice suspicious lesions on your body or suspect you may have contracted screwworm, seek immediate medical attention. Larvae should only be removed by a healthcare provider to prevent further tissue damage and illness. Do not attempt to remove or dispose of eggs or larvae yourself.

If you notice suspicious lesions on your livestock, pets, or any other warm-blooded animals, please contact your local veterinarian to evaluate the animal or herd. Officials urge residents to quarantine animals with suspected infections to mitigate the spread of this devastating pest.

The food supply in Texas is currently safe from screwworm. State or federal meat inspectors examine each animal to ensure they do not have signs of disease or pests, including screwworm.

Early detection is key. For more information on detection, reporting, and stopping the spread, please visit screwworm.gov.

First confirmed U.S. case of New World Screwworm found today in a calf in Zavala County, about 100 miles southwest of San Antonio.

We are working with the Texas Animal Health Commission, U.S. Department of Agriculture and partners statewide to respond.

Early detection is critical and it is important to report suspected infestation in live animals
