My name is Leah Sanders and I would greatly appreciate your vote for Scott County School Board Representative in District 2. I was compelled to run for school board because I care deeply about the education of our youth here in Scott County. I understand the impacts of a highly skilled workforce in the community on businesses and in society as a whole. I feel that parents and students have lost their voice in the school systems of Kentucky and I intend to give it back to you. Partisan politics have played too large a role in decision-making in education. I want to return the focus to where it should be…the students and staff. I will work diligently to keep our school taxes low and eliminate unnecessary and frivolous spending. We need to return to teaching core subjects, ensuring our students are competitive in the workplace as well as in the postsecondary application process. Utilizing surveys and obtaining input via email to gain information from parents, guardians and community leaders, I want to provide our students with the best tools for success. This is my pledge to you. If elected, I will strive to make a difference and give our students the best opportunities possible to flourish during their time here in Scott County Schools and beyond. Their lifetime success is my goal.
I graduated magma cm laude from EKU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Masters Degree in Public Administration. During my time at EKU, I took classes such as Grantwriting and Public Budgeting and I feel I can utilize this knowledge and these skills to make Scott County Schools the best it can possibly be. I have lived in Scott county cumulatively for about 10 years. I am also a mother to two wonderful children currently in the Scott County School System so I am deeply vested in the education system here. I have served on the Northern Elementary PTO executive board as well as volunteered at many of the schools in the system over the years. As a result of my career, I have many years of working with the public in diversified populations all over the US. I would love the opportunity to serve you, Scott County, and make our schools the best!
