TOWN HALL MEETING – NEW WORLD SCREWWORM UPDATE

McMullen County residents, ranchers, livestock owners, hunters, and pet owners are encouraged to attend an upcoming Town Hall Meeting regarding the recent detection of the New World Screwworm in South Texas.

The New World Screwworm is a flesh-eating parasite that can affect livestock, wildlife, pets, and in rare cases, humans. Recent confirmed cases in South Texas have increased concerns across the region, making awareness, prevention, and early detection more important than ever.

This meeting will provide the latest information from state and local officials regarding:
✅ What the New World Screwworm is
✅ How it impacts livestock, wildlife, and pets
✅ Signs and symptoms to watch for
✅ Current response efforts in Texas
✅ What residents and ranchers can do to help prevent its spread

We encourage everyone to attend, ask questions, and learn how we can work together to protect the agricultural resources, livestock, and communities of McMullen County.

📍 Location: 3079 TX 16. Tilden, Tx 78072
📅 Date: June 12th, 2026
⏰ Time: 15:00 (3:00 P.M.)

On this day in 1939, the Texas Legislature established the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, laying the foundation for a statewide commitment to protecting the natural resources that sustain our farms, ranches, communities, and future generations.

For 86 years, the TSSWCB has worked alongside Texas’ 216 Soil and Water Conservation Districts, landowners, producers, and conservation partners to advance voluntary, locally led conservation across the Lone Star State.

As we reflect on this milestone, we honor the visionaries who came before us and remain committed to stewarding Texas’ soil and water resources for generations to come.
