Town of Genoa, Nevada

Town of Genoa, Nevada First settlement in Nevada. Established in 1851. In June of 1850, H.S. H.S. In the spring of 1851, Colonel John Reese, Enoch Reese, H.S.

Beatie and his party camped along a fast flowing stream about a mile north of what would become Genoa. While there, they learned from people passing through the area that there was a “rush” of placer miners expected to pass through the area on their way to Sutter’s Mill in California. Beatie and company returned to Salt Lake City, Utah, for supplies and able men to man the trading post. Beatie and several others established a trading post on the spot where the Mormon Station Historic State Park is located today, thereby establishing Nevada’s first settlement. In 1854, Judge Orson Hyde renamed Mormon Station as Genoa. Today, Genoa is a thriving small town community of about 300 residents within the town boundaries with an additional 400-500 residents in the immediate area. Genoa is located about 20 minutes south of Nevada’s Capitol, Carson City, about 25 minutes east of Lake Tahoe and a about an hour south of Reno. Candy Dance is September 26 and 27 - with an expected 30,000 people coming over 2 days, it's good to have a parking plan!

There are 3 parking lots, each $10 cash.

🚗 Arriving south from Carson City: We recommend the Genoa Lane lot, which is the biggest lot. Turn right from US Highway 395 on to Genoa Lane.

🚙 Arriving north from Minden/Gardnerville: Take Muller Lane to Foothill Road and turn north on Foothill Road to Genoa. GENOA LANE is CLOSED for LEFT TURNS from US Highway 395.

🚘 Genoa Cemetery Parking Lot/Jacks Valley Road: This is our smallest parking lot, and is usually full by 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. We highly recommend using the Genoa Lane lot instead.
