Due to the projected cold temperatures ahead, The City of Geneva will have a warming station located at 79 Geneva Street; the Hydrant Hose Fire Station. The warming station will be open starting Monday 1/20/2025, 7am-7pm through the rear entrance of the building, after-hours access can be made by using the emergency call box on the front of the building.

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to a true hero and dedicated servant of our community, Assistant Chief Kevin Powers. With an incredible legacy of service spanning an impressive 70 years with the Nester Hose Company, 61 of those years as our esteemed Assistant Chief, Kevin leaves behind a profound impact that will be remembered for generations to come.

Through his unwavering dedication, leadership, and selflessness, Kevin embodied the true spirit of a firefighter, always putting the safety and well-being of others above all else. His commitment to excellence and his passion for serving others set an extraordinary example for all of us to follow.

As we mourn the loss of a remarkable individual, let us also celebrate the incredible life and legacy of Assistant Chief Kevin Powers. His impact on our community will never be forgotten, and his memory will continue to inspire us all.

Rest in peace, Assistant Chief Powers. Thank you for your decades of service, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will live on forever in our hearts.

If you see a downed wire, stay far away (30 feet or more) and call 9-1-1 to report it. Downed trees could have wires caught in them and wood can conduct electricity when wet. Avoid coming in contact with branches or trees if they have fallen.

Be very careful when moving about the city tonight. The thunderstorm brought down many trees and powerlines. GFD has responded to more than a dozen storm related calls.
