IYSSE at Geneseo

IYSSE at Geneseo The IYSSE at Geneseo will orient students and youth toward the working class in the struggle for socialism. Meetings are being held remotely.

Contact us to learn more. Young people, including students, face a dangerous future. The fraudulent economic “recovery” is worsening for the vast majority of the population. Imperialist war, even a nuclear World War III, looms around the corner. Climate change threatens the entire planet. These threats and others demonstrate that capitalism is a system in crisis, incapable of creating a decent fut

ure for youth, students, and workers everywhere. The SUNY Geneseo chapter of the International Youth and Students for Social Equality seeks to mobilize students and young workers in the struggle for the only viable alternative to capitalism: socialism. The IYSSE is dedicated to the defense of democratic rights, opposition to war, and the arming of students, youth, and workers with a socialist perspective. To do so, we hold weekly meetings to engage students and workers and orient members toward the working class. All interested people are welcome to attend meetings, regardless of major or enrollment status. Meetings include a political report on recent events given by an IYSSE member, highlighting relevant historical and theoretical issues. These reports and subsequent discussion are integral to our perspective for work on campus. Organizational matters, including planning events, are considered after discussion. Previous Events:
• Meeting on the Ukrainian crisis: A summary of the immediate and historical causes of the ongoing Ukrainian crisis and the importance of a socialist and internationalist policy to stop war.
• International May Day: A screening of the May Day event hosted by the International Committee of the Fourth International, with discussion afterwards. Future Events:
• Screening of Tsar to Lenin: Movie concerning the February and October Revolutions of 1917 and the founding of the Soviet Union.
• Talks by Socialist Equality Party members: SEP members will give talks on a variety of subjects, including economic inequality, the threat of war, aesthetics, science, and philosophy.

Stop the Gaza genocide! Join others in Washington D.C. on Wednesday to rally against it! Full details in the first comment.

On Wednesday, mass murderer Benjamin Netanyahu, accused of war crimes by the International Criminal Court, is appearing by invitation to address a joint session of Congress. This cannot go unopposed.

He will be speaking not only as the leader of the fascistic cabal that rules Israel but as the chief political agent of U.S. imperialism in the Middle East. The U.S.-aided-and-abetted slaughter has destroyed more than a third of all buildings in Gaza and killed an estimated 186,000, 8% of the total population, and that by a *conservative* estimate.

The World Socialist Web Site and the world party for which it speaks have called a demonstration to denounce the slaughter and the welcome of its client perpetrator. The rally will start at 1 p.m. at the east end of the National Mall in D.C. A post-rally meeting, "Socialism and the fight against war," will take place from 3-6 p.m. at the nearby St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church (the meeting has no religious content, they are simply providing a room in a city difficult to find them).

Mass arrests of students and faculty protesting genocide around the world, including especially the U.S., academics imprisoned in Israel for merely criticizing the same, socialists arrested and threatened with life imprisonment in Ukraine under conditions that amount to death sentences for criticizing the butchery.

Why is the world igniting into conflagration? Why does the Dutch foreign minister demand the population "get used to … civilian casualties and body bags"? Why does the U.S. condemn international investigation of hundreds of summary executions of hospitalized Palestinians, their handcuffed bodies dumped into mass graves?

Only one world force has a progressive answer to these questions, the ultimate target of violence and exploitation today—the working class. And the working class needs a historical perspective and understanding of its tasks, one which today amounts to a program on which to fight.

Today is May Day, the international day of commemoration of past working class victories and defeats and a day on which to make sure the future ones carry us to full victory and the abolition of class society itself.

I hope you'll join me this Saturday for an international online rally building a socialist movement of workers and youth towards these ends. As World War rushes towards us, there is but little time left. Speakers from around the globe will outline a fighting program from the perspective of the movement that led the victory of workers in the October Revolution in Russia.

On Saturday, May 4, the International Committee of the Fourth International and the World Socialist Web Site will celebrate May Day with an online rally, featuring speakers from throughout the world.

Lithograph: Romans plowing salt over Carthage (19th century)

Israel's imposition of Apartheid and its corraling of the indigenous population into smaller and smaller Bantustans has reached a truly monstrous new low.

Gazans have only access to fresh water from wells, and as they are confined to a narrow strip with high population density, they have been forced to withdraw fresh water at a rate eight times larger than it is replenished by the rainfall. And now, as part of the criminal genocide being perpetrated by the Zionist state, the Israeli Defense Forces is literally "salting the Earth" of Gaza, using modern infrastructure to pump vast quantities of seawater into the underground networks of the areas they have seized.

They claim it is to root out "terrorists" (meaning drowning any terrified people taking desperate refuge, given all realistic avenues of escape are cut off). But it will accelerate if not complete the destruction of access to fresh water in Gaza and do the same for the agricultural yield of the land.

It is difficult to convey how wantonly destructive and cruel such an act is, going beyond any imaginable military justification, even assuming the entire operation from beginning to end were not a crime against humanity. There are so many crimes piled upon crimes at work by the Zionist butchers stretching back generations that each rests upon an entire edifice of criminality. It proves that the entire operation is simply cover for expulsion and annihilation, the textbook definition of genocide.

International May Day rally this Saturday, May 1, at 11 est. Click the link below to register to attend.

This year’s May Day is being held under conditions of a new surge in the global COVID-19 pandemic. The rally will issue a call for the formation of the International Workers Alliance of Rank-and-File Committees (IWA-RFC). The ICFI and the SEPs are advancing this initiative to begin and develop a global counteroffensive of the working class against the homicidal policies of the governments controlled by the capitalist ruling class, which are responsible for the worldwide catastrophe.

Since the emergence of the pandemic more than one year ago, nearly three million people have died and more than 136 million have been infected. Fueled by the emergence of more contagious variants, the seven-day average for new cases is now approaching 700,000 and is close to its previous peak in January. More than 11,000 people are dying every day throughout the world.

The experience of the past year has demonstrated that the fight against the pandemic is not merely a medical issue. It requires a political struggle against the capitalist system. The interaction of the drive for profit regardless of social cost, the lust of the oligarchs for obscene levels of personal wealth, and their inhuman indifference to the lives and welfare of the world’s population has created a global social catastrophe.

As of April 14, there have been at least 265 police killings in 2021 across the United States. The police continue to kill at an unrelenting rate of three people per day, a bloody number that has held steady for years, despite popular protests and outrage over one killing after another.

The unending epidemic of police murder is an outgrowth of the rotten social and economic conditions which define life in the United States.

The IYSSE at Geneseo strongly opposes internet censorship by Facebook, especially against left-wing pages and individuals.

All people and political tendencies have the fundamental right to express their views and to have open and free discussion of them. The efforts of Facebook to censor the SEP and other left-wing organizations is aimed at disrupting the right of free speech the ability of the working class to organize politically.

We encourage all those who oppose censorship to share this article and voice their opposition to this unprincipled political attack on democratic rights.

On Friday, Facebook carried out a purge of left-wing, antiwar and progressive pages and accounts, including members of the Socialist Equality Party.

The events in DC today can be described as nothing short of a fascist coup. Trump has been preparing to overturn the election and the constitution for months, culminating in this attempt. Trump and his enablers must be removed from office immediately. It is only the independent mobilization of the working class that can oppose the march towards fascism that has led to this putsch.

Thousands of Trump supporters have stormed the Capitol and halted the congressional certification of Trump’s defeat in the presidential election.

The $900 billion dollar COVID relief bill is a clear exposure of the indifference of both corporate parties to the well being of the working class. While millions are out of work, with many thousands of dollars behind on rent and utilities, the capitalist controlled state has seen it fit to hand hundreds of billions of dollars to corporations and the military instead of supporting those in need.

There can be no doubt that both the Republicans and Democrats are more concerned with the profits of corporations than the lives of working class Americans.

Neither party deserves support. Workers and students must break from these capitalist parties and join the International Youth and Students for Social Equality and the Socialist Equality Party in building an independent movement of the working class for socialism.

The most important fact about the $900 billion coronavirus relief bill, which was moving through the US Congress Monday night, is that it is grossly inadequate to meet the vast social needs exposed by the pandemic.

Just in the past eleven days, tens of millions have joined strikes or mass protests.
