Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer. It is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy every day.

From all of us at the Otsego County Fire Authority, we extend our deepest gratitude to our fallen heroes and their families. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Fb 🔥🧨Fire Danger is in the VERY HIGH category today across the Huron-Manistee National Forests.

Wildfires sparked from equipment use, campfires or debris burning start easily from most causes.

♨️During VERY HIGH fire danger, fires will spread rapidly and have a quick increase in intensity, right after ignition. Small fires can quickly become large fires and exhibit extreme fire intensity, such as long-distance spotting and fire whirls. These fires can be difficult to control and will often become much larger and longer-lasting fires.

CAMPING, COOKING AND WARMING FIRES MUST BE DEAD OUT AND COLD TO THE TOUCH.

💧Drown, Stir, Feel, Repeat, until the coals are COLD.🌡

Thank you to Rex Drummond for generously allowing the Otsego County Fire Authority to use his property for a valuable acquired structure training.

Our firefighters had the opportunity to train in a real building environment, practicing critical fireground skills including forcible entry, vertical ventilation, primary search, second-story window initiated search (VES), and victim rescue.

We are incredibly grateful to Rex Drummond for his support of the fire service and his commitment to helping us better serve and protect our community.

If you own a vacant home, barn, or other structure that may be suitable for firefighter training please contact the Otsego County Fire Authority. Opportunities like these provide realistic training and directly contribute to the safety of both our firefighters and the citizens we serve.

A huge thank you to Alpine Propane for their generous donation of propane to support our live fire Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) training.

Realistic training is critical for preparing firefighters to respond effectively when lives are on the line. The propane provided by Alpine Propane allowed us to create controlled, repeatable fire scenarios that gave participants the opportunity to sharpen their skills in fire attack, rescue, and incident management.

Partnerships like this make a direct impact on firefighter readiness and community safety. We are grateful for Alpine Propane’s commitment to helping first responders train at the highest level.

Thank you for fueling the training that helps us protect our communities. 🔥✈️🚒
