Law enforcement agencies across the area will be increasing distracted driving enforcement as part of the Toward Zero Deaths initiative. Our goal is simple: save lives and prevent crashes before they happen.

A quick text, scrolling social media, or checking notifications can take your eyes off the road long enough to change lives forever.

đźš” You will see increased enforcement over the coming weeks as officers focus on drivers who are:

• Texting or using a handheld phone
• Scrolling or using apps while driving
• Driving inattentively or carelessly

No message is worth a life.

Make the safe choice:

• Put your phone away before driving
• Use hands-free only when absolutely necessary
• Stay focused on the road, your passengers, and the drivers around you

Together, we can move Toward Zero Deaths.

All

After over 37 years in law enforcement, and 32 of those with the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office, I have made the decision that I will not be seeking re-election this November and I will be retiring at the end of this term.

I first started for the sheriff’s office in 1994. I worked as a deputy, an investigator, Chief Deputy for 16 years, and as your Sheriff for the last 7 plus years.

I truly thank the citizens of Sibley County for your support over these years. I also thank the many outstanding co-workers that I spent the last 3 decades with. Nothing would have been possible without them. It has been an honor and privilege to serve as the Sheriff these past years. The citizen of Sibley County can take pride and comfort knowing Sibley County continues to be one of the safest places to live.

Respectfully
Pat Nienaber
Sibley County Sheriff

To protect our community, you will see more impaired-driving enforcement over the next month. You can help us by making the right decision by planning a sober ride if you choose to drink.

Seatbelts reduce the risk of fatal injury by 45%. Don’t leave safety behind. You may think you are not a safety risk while driving, but you can’t control wildlife, mechanical failures, or other drivers on the roadway. Sibley County asks that you wear your seatbelt for your safety and IT’S THE LAW. You will see extra patrol for seatbelt enforcement over the next couple of weeks.
