Flooded roads can be dangerous — and it doesn’t take much water to put you at risk. 🚗🌊

Did you know:
⚠️ Just 6 inches of fast-moving water can knock over an adult.
⚠️ 12 inches of fast-moving water can carry away a small car.
⚠️ 18–24 inches of fast-moving water can sweep away larger vehicles, including SUVs, vans, and trucks.

Never drive around barricades or attempt to cross flooded roadways. Your safety is more important than getting through.

UPDATE: One lane is now open.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT 🚨

Motorists are advised that all eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 on the Pascagoula River Bridge are currently closed due to a traffic crash.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is on scene and actively investigating the incident. Please avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes until the roadway can be safely reopened.

Expect significant delays and use caution when traveling in the area.

We will provide updates as additional information becomes available.

Please be advised that a prescribed burn will take place today just north of I-10 between mile markers 59–60.

The burn is expected to begin around 10:00 AM and end around 3:00 PM.

Smoke will be visible in the area and may impact visibility for drivers traveling nearby.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution, reduce speed if needed, and remain alert while traveling through the area.

🔥 PRESCRIBED BURN NOTICE – JUNE 9, 2026 🔥

📍 Location: North of Interstate 10 and west of Gautier-Vancleave Road in Jackson County

The planned burn area consists of approximately 336 acres and is part of ongoing habitat restoration efforts for the critically endangered Mississippi sandhill crane and dusky gopher frog. Prescribed burns also help reduce hazardous vegetation and improve public safety by lowering wildfire risks.

🚨 What residents should know:
• Smoke may be visible throughout the day and could move into nearby areas depending on wind conditions.
• Refuge personnel and equipment will be operating in the area.
• Temporary road closures may occur if needed to ensure public safety.
• The burn is being conducted by trained wildland fire personnel under approved weather conditions and with a state-issued burn permit.

We encourage motorists to use caution if traveling near the area and to be mindful of reduced visibility if smoke is present.

⚠️ TRAFFIC ALERT ⚠️

Interstate 10 westbound is currently being diverted at Gautier-Vancleave Road due to a fatal traffic crash investigation being conducted by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Motorists traveling westbound on I-10 should expect delays and seek alternate routes if possible. Please use caution in the area and follow all directions from law enforcement officers and traffic control personnel.

We ask the public to be patient as investigators work to safely process the scene. Additional information will be released by the Mississippi Highway Patrol as it becomes available.
