Today, multiple agencies responded to a water rescue and recovery operation near the Gates County, Hertford County, and Virginia state line.

Hazardous Weather Update - June 11, 2026
🌡️ Dangerous heat is forecast Thursday and Friday. A Heat Advisory is in place for portions of central NC from 11AM to 8PM tonight.

⛈️ Severe thunderstorms are possible in northern areas on Thursday before spreading across western and central NC on Friday.

🏠 Limit outdoor exposure and stay indoors if possible.
🥤 Drink plenty of water.
👕 Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.

The heat is turning up here in Gates County, and we’re under an excessive heat threat the next few days.
It’s giving full-on summer vibes so let's stay smart and look out for one another!

The combination of temperatures in the mid and upper 90s and increasing humidity will result in heat index values of 100-105 across the region today. The highest heat index readings will occur from the Norfolk metro northward along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay into the Northern Neck this afternoon.

There is an increased fire danger today across northeast North Carolina due to a combination of very dry soil moisture, hot temperatures in the 90s, minimum relative humidity values of 25-30%, and SW winds gusting around 20 mph.

This morning Firefighters from Eure VFD and Hertford County responded to an accident north of the chowan river bridge.
Northbound traffic will experience delays for several hours.
