At our weekly drill Monday night, our Firefighters trained on mobile water supply and mobile fire attack to stay ready for wildland fire season. We practiced numerous techniques using our two brush rigs, Brush 11 (BR11) and Brush 12 (BR12).

Yamhill Fire - Station 4 sent Water Tender 4 (WT4) to familiarize our personnel with its capabilities.

It was a hot evening and a great opportunity to flow water.

At 5:48PM today Gaston Fire was dispatched to a brush fire near 27441 Hwy 47, just South of Gaston. We responded with 2 Brush rigs, a tender, a utility, and 2 Chief Officers.

On arrival, units found about half an acre of hay stubble and a small number of hay bales on fire. Winds were pushing the fire towards an uncut field and a home. We upgraded to a first alarm adding a water tender and heavy brush from Forest Grove Fire & Rescue as well as a heavy brush from Carlton Fire Dist. Station 7.

We immediately attacked the head of the fire and stopped it's forward progress. Crews worked to suppress the rest of the fire for another 20 minutes and then overhauled the area.

It was determined that the fire was caused by a malfunctioning hay baler. We hope they are able to repair their equipment soon.

Thanks to Forest Grove Fire & Rescue and Carlton Fire Dist. Station 7 for their assistance. And thanks to Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue E19 and HB19 for covering our station while we were working this fire.

You've probably heard this summer isn't looking too great for wildfire. With the outlook over the next few months showing above average potential for large fires, please do you part to prevent human-caused fires.

Roughly 70% of the fires in Oregon are sparked by humans, and a big chunk of that, unintentionally.

Check out the prevention section on our website to learn more and help protect what we love about our great state.

We all knew it was coming, and it's almost here.

Gaston Rural Fire District will join the rest of Washington and Yamhill Counties by instituting a High-Fire Danger Burn Ban on 6/15/2026 at 12:01AM.

This action is based on recommendations by the Washington County and Yamhill County Fire Defense Boards in alignment with Oregon Department of Forestry.

Burning restrictions are authorized under Oregon Revised Statute 478.960 and Oregon Fire Code 307. Anyone violating this ban could be liable for all costs incurred as well as legal fees per ORS 478.965.

Now this isn't a good time to do any last minute burning, we'll have a heat wave starting Saturday with forecasted winds. This is a great time to make sure any fire you've had so far is fully-extinguished. We've already had a few burn piles get out of control in the last few weeks, including 2 that the homeowners thought had been extinguished days earlier.

At 11:43 last night Gaston Fire was dispatched to a possible traffic accident at 304 Front St in Gaston.

Initially this call came in as a automatic crash notification but dispatch quickly received multiple calls about a car traveling at high speed, a t-bone crash, a roll-over accident, and reports of someone screaming.

When E11 arrived, they found a car on fire on Front St and another car in a residential yard. E11 split their crew to simultaneously combat the fire and provide medical care to the injured.

Luckily both drivers had managed to get out of their car prior to our arrival. The driver of the BMW was transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center by AMR Washington County, Oregon with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota was uninjured.

The accident was investigated by Oregon State Police and Washington County Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic control and investigation. The accident resulted in a 50' long debris field of glass and car parts so our crew cleared the road before leaving the scene. The highway was closed for about 1.5 hours.

Thanks again to Forest Grove Fire & Rescue E421 for responding to assist.
