Dear Neighbors,
My heart is extremely heavy as I write this. As many of you have already heard, two dear members of our community were shot outside their home on the 1100 block of Warren St. I want to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Pegg Sangerman, who lost her life in this senseless act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are also with her husband, Mike Sangerman, as he recovers from his injuries.
I spoke at length with Chief Cannon last night and the Gary Police Department is actively investigating this homicide, and they need our help. Sadly, the assailant is still at large. If you were in the area around 7:18 PM on the evening of December 18th and have any information, or if you have camera footage that may assist in the investigation, please contact Sergeant James Nielsen at (219) 755-3855. You can also send video footage to [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]).
In response to this incident, the Gary Police Department is increasing their presence in our neighborhood, conducting extra patrols throughout the holiday season to ensure our community feels safe.
Let's come together as a community to support one another during this difficult time. We must remain vigilant and proactive in keeping Gary safe. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Lastly, I’d like to thank Diane Kania for being a trusted voice in our community and sharing vital information with me and others. My prayers are with all of you and the Sangerman family.
Sincerely,
lori latham
Gary 1st District Councilperson
