Continental Village Vol. Fire Department The official page of the Continental Village Volunteer Fire Department Our Department is always looking for new members.

The Continental Village Fire Department is a medium sized fire department serving about 20,000 residents of Westchester and Putnam Counties. Known locally as the "Iron Men" (a reference to the strength and resilience of our members, as well as iron mining throughout the area's history) the department covers a key area of the lower Hudson Valley. Our coverage area includes a busy stretch of Route 9

, Annsville Circle, the Paraco Gas terminal, Camp Smith, the Anthony's Nose trails, he Bear Mountain Bridge and the Bear Mountain Bridge Road, affectionately refereed to as "The Goat Trail" . Our dedicated and highly trained volunteer firefighters answer about 200 alarms per year. We do a lot more more than just put out fires, we respond to car accidents, injured and lost hikers and medical assistance calls. Our marine unit covers an area of the great Hudson River between Indian Point and Garrison and answers calls for search and rescue as well as boaters in distress. The Continental Village Fire Department has been and continues to take pride in the service it provides to the community. Some volunteer for the "action" and some volunteer as part of a civic responsibility. Either way, we would love for you to come down. The department supplies your gear, uniform and training at no cost to you. We even have a pension system available (LOSAP) for certain types of membership. The types of membership available are listed below:

Active Membership - You must be over 18 years old and reside in the area. You will be on probation for a period of 12 months, after which you will become a full member after a review. You have full voting privileges at departmental meetings. You will have to have a background arson checked performed. There are 2 types of active members:

1) Interior Firefighter. This is for anyone who is trained to enter burning structures. Due to the physical nature of this function, the member must pass a physical as well as certain training requirements.

2) Exterior Firefighter. This position is for anyone who is not physically able to be an interior firefighter or those who simply do not want to become interior certified. This position is just as important as an interior firefighter. You will get to train, participate in drills and perform work details just as everyone else. Junior Membership - This is for people from the ages of 16 - 18 who have permission from your parent or legal guardian. There are a few limitations for this membership such as a curfew and not being allowed to enter an actively burning structure. Otherwise, they have the same membership privileges as an active member. Associate Membership - This is similar to an Social membership. You are allowed to attend meetings, but can not vote. You also do not attend fires or drills. However, you do have access to the firehouse and all functions related to the department. Our department also offers an "Explorer Program" which allows aspiring firefighters to join the ranks at the age of 14 in order to begin learning skills and build a passion for the fire service. Tomorrow morning the Continental Village Fire Department will be holding a Boot Drive to support one of our own. One of our member’s wives was recently diagnosed with cancer, and we want to come together as a department and community to help ease some of the financial burden during this difficult time.

Our members will be out around town with boots collecting donations. Every dollar counts, and 100% of the donations will go directly toward supporting the family.

The fire service has always been about more than responding to calls — we take care of our own.

If you see one of our boots tomorrow, please consider making a donation. No donation is too small, and your kindness and generosity truly mean so much.

On Tuesday night, members of the Continental Village Fire Department conducted training focused on car fires. Firefighters used three vehicles to provide hands-on experience in extinguishing and overhauling car fires.

On Tuesday night, members of the Continental Village Fire Department joined with the Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps for a vehicle extrication drill at the Continental Village Fire Department. Firefighters practiced removing a training dummy from a vehicle positioned in a ditch, using various tools and methods. Meanwhile, the Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps trained on safely removing the patient from the vehicle.Peekskill Community Volunteer Ambulance Corps would also like to thank Castle Auto & Towing Inc. for the vehicle’s they donated so we could continue to train!

🚨 A few friendly reminders:
🌊 If a roadway is flooded — TURN AROUND, DON’T DRIVE THROUGH IT!** Your vehicle is not a boat. 🚗🛶

🚧 If a roadway is closed, DO NOT MOVE THE CONES, BARRICADES, OR CAUTION TAPE! They were placed there for a reason — and that reason is YOUR SAFETY.

We’d much rather see you safely turn around than have to come rescue you because you thought, “well, I can probably make it.”

Stay safe, slow down, and remember: Turn around, don’t drown! 🌧️🚒
