Garrett Fire Department recently honored the retirements of two long-standing members.
Ron Leon: 28 Years of Service
John Liechty: 26 Years of Service.
Their decades of volunteer service have left an indelible mark on our department and the residents they protected.
This milestone was celebrated alongside a dinner provided by Mayor Todd Fiandt and Cheryl Andrews in observance of National Firefighter Day.
We thank them for their steadfast dedication and wish them the absolute best in their retirement.

Volunteer firefighters are often the backbone of emergency services in small communities, and their importance goes far beyond just putting out fires.

They put their lives on hold—leaving family, work, or rest behind—to respond when help is needed. In communities without full-time fire departments, they ensure emergencies are handled quickly and with care.

They don’t just fight fires—they save lives, protect homes, and keep their neighbors safe. And they do it all while strengthening the community they serve.

Without volunteer firefighters, many small communities would face slower emergency response, higher costs, and reduced overall safety. They’re not just responders—they’re a critical part of the community’s stability and well-being.
