PARKING CHANGES – EAST HOUSTON & SOUTH GUILFORD STREETS

At the September 1 City Council meeting, council members voted to approve changes to parking along portions of East Houston Street and South Guilford Street.

Please pay close attention to the notices regarding these changes. If your block is affected, a Garrett Police Department officer will also be delivering a notice directly to your residence with additional information.

📌Please note: The new parking restrictions will NOT be enforced until the official “No Parking” signs have been installed. Once the signs are in place, the new parking restrictions will take effect and enforcement will begin.

We appreciate everyone’s attention and cooperation as these changes are implemented.

If you have any questions, please contact the Garrett Police Department at 260-357-5151.

EAST SIDE ROAD IMPROVEMENTS STARTING SOON

API will soon start construction on the City’s latest Community Crossings Matching Grant project. This will include curb ramps/limited sidewalk replacement and resurfacing of the following streets:

E. Quincy from Randolph to Taylor
Sullivan from Quincy to Keyser
Collins from Quincy to Keyser
2nd St. from Quincy to E. Houston
E. Keyser from Harrison to dead end
1st St. from King to Keyser

Concrete work is scheduled to begin the week of August 24. Asphalt replacement will begin in October. All work will be complete by December 1. During this time, on street parking may be disrupted and roads may be closed to through traffic. We will do our best to notify those affected prior to the restrictions occurring.

We know our East Side residents are already navigating disruptions caused from the new school construction and we truly appreciate your patience as we work to upgrade our city streets and infrastructure. Please drive cautiously around work zones and equipment.

If you have any questions concerning this project, please contact the Planning Department at [email protected].

🎒📚 Ready or not… the first day of school is HERE! 🚌✏️

Welcome back, Garrett-Keyser-Butler Schools! We hope the backpacks are packed, the alarms actually went off, and everyone remembered where they left their shoes. 😅

While students are getting back into the school routine, drivers have a little homework too:

🚌 Watch for school buses
🚸 Slow down in school zones
👀 Keep an eye out for kids walking and biking
📵 Phones down, eyes up

And remember—being late is better than getting a ticket… or causing a crash. 😉

Have an awesome first day, GKB! Let’s start the school year off safe! 🚓💙

🚌 School starts in just a few days! ✏️📚

As students head back to the classroom, remember to slow down, stay alert, and keep distractions away while driving. 🚗👀

Watch for children walking and biking, obey school-zone speed limits, and always stop for school buses when required. 🛑🚌

A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference. Let’s work together to keep our students safe this school year! 🚓💙

What an amazing night! 🎉💙
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to make Garrett Night Out 2026 such a tremendous success! We were blown away by the incredible turnout, the beautiful weather, and the opportunity to spend the evening with so many members of our amazing community.

A special thank you to CSX and the First Responders Children’s Foundation for their generous donation of toys, helping us bring even more smiles to kids' faces again this year!

Events like this remind us how fortunate we are to serve such a supportive and caring community. We hope everyone had as much fun as we did!
