🚨 MAILBOX VANDALISM ALERT 🚨

The Garrett Police Department has received reports of mailboxes being damaged and destroyed within the city. We are asking for the public’s assistance in helping identify those responsible.

If you witness someone intentionally damaging a mailbox, crashing into a mailbox and leaving the scene, or have any information regarding these incidents, please contact Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch immediately at 972-937-6060. Dispatch will contact a Garrett Police Officer or send an officer to your location to take a report.

📬 Damaging or destroying a mailbox is a criminal offense and may also involve federal violations when U.S. mailboxes are targeted.

⚠️ This is also a reminder that the Garrett Police Department is not staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and officers are not always available to answer the police department phone. The fastest and most effective way to contact a Garrett Police Officer is through Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at 972-937-6060.

🚨 City of Garrett Notice 🚨

The City of Garrett is currently experiencing an internet outage, which is also affecting our phone lines. As a result, City Hall and Municipal Court operations are temporarily impacted and may not be available until service is restored.

We will provide an update as soon as internet and phone services are back online.

If you have an emergency, please dial 911 immediately.

For non-emergency law enforcement assistance or if you need to speak with an officer, please contact Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at 972-937-6060.

🚨 UPDATE – SEARCH EFFORTS 🚨

All units have cleared the scene at this time. Despite extensive search efforts, officers were unable to locate the subject. K9 units lost track of the individual, and drone operations were conducted throughout the area.

At this time, we believe the subject may still possibly be in the area.

The individual is wanted for a warrant out of another county and fled from Garrett Police Department officers during an attempted arrest.

⚠️ Citizens are advised:

* Do NOT approach or attempt to apprehend this individual.
* If you see anyone matching the description or know the identity/location of this subject, immediately contact the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 972-937-6060 or call 911.

We greatly appreciate the public’s assistance and cooperation during this incident.

The Garrett Police Department, Ennis Police Department, and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office are currently searching for the individual shown in the photo in the area of:

📍 North Kaufman Street
📍 Northeast Main Street
📍 Henson Street
📍 East Martin Luther King Boulevard

The individual was last seen wearing:

* Tan pants
* No shirt
* Heavyset Black male

⚠️ If you see anyone matching this description or recognize the individual in the photo, DO NOT attempt to apprehend, approach, interfere, or make contact with the Subject.

A K9 tracking unit and drone operations are currently being utilized in the area.

Believe the subject is not armed, but do lock your doors and keep eye out for the Subject.

Immediately contact the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office at 972-937-6060 or call 911 and advise dispatch of the subject’s location.

The Garrett Police Department would like to thank everyone who came out and participated in our Cops and Cones event!

It was truly a joy seeing all the smiles and happiness on the kids’ faces throughout the event. We were honored to be able to give back to our community with the bicycles that were generously donated for the children.

We would also like to give a huge thank you to all of the sponsors, businesses, volunteers, and individuals who helped make this event possible by donating bicycles, cakes, gift cards, and other giveaways. Your support helped make this a fun and memorable event for so many families and children in our community.

This Memorial Day, the City of Garrett Police Department honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, dedication, and selfless service will never be forgotten.

Today, we remember our fallen heroes and keep their families in our thoughts and prayers. Because of their sacrifice, we continue to enjoy the freedoms we hold dear every day. 🇺🇸

🚨 CITY OF GARRETT – OUTDOOR BURNING NOTICE 🚨

Residents are reminded that outdoor burning inside the City of Garrett requires a burn permit from City Hall BEFORE any burning takes place. There is NO fee for the permit. The permit simply allows the City to know when and where burning is occurring for safety purposes.

🔥 Burning is ONLY allowed when a burn ban is NOT in effect.

Residents are reminded that Texas environmental laws prohibit the burning of materials that create toxic smoke or air pollution. Items that are ILLEGAL to burn include, but are not limited to:

❌ Tires
❌ Wire insulation or electrical materials
❌ Plastics or PVC materials
❌ Rubber products
❌ Treated or painted wood
❌ Construction debris
❌ Household garbage or trash
❌ Furniture or upholstery
❌ Asphalt shingles or roofing materials
❌ Oil, chemicals, or hazardous materials
❌ Aerosol cans or explosive materials

Only natural vegetation such as brush, limbs, leaves, grass, and untreated wood should be burned when permitted.

Texas law under the Texas Health & Safety Code § 382.018 and Texas Administrative Code Chapter 111 regulates outdoor burning and air pollution. Violations of outdoor burning laws may result in citations, fines, criminal charges, and liability for damages caused by the fire. Violations may be prosecuted as misdemeanor offenses, and penalties can include fines up to $500 or more depending on the violation and circumstances.

Under the Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 382 and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations, illegal burning that causes significant air pollution or releases toxic emissions can result in:

* Class C misdemeanors for minor violations
* Class A or Class B misdemeanors for more serious violations
* State jail felony or higher felony charges if the violation is intentional, repeated, involves hazardous waste, or places the public or environment at substantial risk

Please burn responsibly, monitor your fire at all times, and ensure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area.
