Built in 1858, the Garnett House or Garnett House Hotel is the oldest standing board and batten structure in Garnett, Kansas. It is the first Hotel in the town of Garnett when the region was still wild. The town was also known as the "Lighhouse Hotel" due to the ability to see it's light in the upstairs window for miles. The Hotel was host to famous guests including Wild Bill Hickcock, Buffalo Bill Cody,Wyatt Earp,Belle Star and Bat Masterson and rumored Jesse James. The hotel has been witness to the history of Kansas during the Bloody Kansas days prior to the Civil War. John Brown, the famous abolitionist was said to have hid freed slaves in it's attic. The building has seen a lot during the time when Garnett was still the Wild West and has many interesting stories to tell. In the 20th Century, the building has been a town Doctor's Office.
