On Sunday, May 24, 2026, at approximately 7:45 PM, the Town of Haverstraw Police Department received a report of a fight in progress in the parking lot of ShopRite, located at 56 West Ramapo Road in Garnerville.

Upon arrival, Officers encountered two adult male individuals on the Rosman Road side of the building. Both individuals sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries during the confrontation and were transported to local hospitals for evaluation. Both parties were treated and released.

The preliminary investigation revealed that one of the individuals involved, an off-duty member of the New York City Police Department, had a legally owned handgun at the time of the altercation. During the confrontation, the firearm was removed from the individual’s waistband, resulting in 1 round being discharged from the weapon. The discharged round did not strike either party or any bystanders.

During the investigation, it was further revealed that the dispute may have
stemmed from the other male individual allegedly harassing the NYPD member’s
daughter. It should be noted that the daughter and the other male involved are
acquaintances only and are not, nor have they ever been, in any form of domestic
relationship.

The Town of Haverstraw Police Department is actively investigating this incident in coordination with the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Town of Haverstraw Police Department Detective Bureau at (845) 354-1500.
