🚨 THIS CAN HAPPEN FASTER THAN YOU THINK. 🚨

With extremely hot temperatures expected over the coming holiday weekend, we at Garner Fire-Rescue want to remind everyone that a child or pet left in a hot car can become a life-threatening emergency in just minutes. ☀️🚗🥵

Think, “I’ll only be gone for a minute…”?

DON’T.

Even when the outside temperature doesn’t seem dangerously hot, the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rise rapidly. Cracking the windows does not make it safe, and air conditioning doesn’t help once the vehicle is turned off.

If you notice the vehicle in the photos, it has tinted windows and they are cracked, yet the inside temperature is over 160 degrees!!

👶 NEVER leave a child alone in a vehicle.
🐶 NEVER leave a pet alone in a vehicle.
🔑 Take them with you — EVERY TIME.

👀 LOOK BEFORE YOU LOCK!

Make it a habit to check your back seat before you walk away. Place your phone, bag, or something you need in the back seat as a reminder.

And if you see a child or pet alone inside a hot vehicle and believe they are in danger:

📞 CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY.

Don't wait. Don't assume someone else will help. Those few seconds could save a life.

🔥 Hot cars aren't just uncomfortable. They can be deadly.

🚒🔥 THE GARNER FIREFIGHTERS FESTIVAL IS BACK! 🔥🚒

A Garner tradition with a new name—but the same great community spirit!

For generations, our community has come together for what was once known as Firemen’s Day. Today, we proudly continue that tradition as the Annual Garner Firefighters Festival!

📅 Saturday, October 3rd
⏰ 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
📍 Garner Fire-Rescue Station #1
503 W. Main Street, Garner

Bring the whole family for a day packed with fun, food, fire trucks, demonstrations, safety education, and plenty of opportunities to meet the men and women who serve our community!

-Food all day long, including that famous Garner Fire BBQ, as well as other treats.

-Fire truck parade at 2:00pm, with music and entertainment throughout the day! Live music from the band Thorn

-Plenty of games and activities for the kids.

We would like to extend a huge congratulations to the following personnel on their professional credentialing journey through the Center for Professional Credentialing (CPC). Deputy Chief Hathcock mentored the group through the latest process, which started around the first part of the year and consisted of five phases, ending last month. This is now the second internal group of candidates to complete professional designations, bringing our total number of credentialed officers to 14. All staff members below successfully received their Fire Officer (FO) designation through CPC.

• Captain Dustin Denning (FO)
• Captain Patrick Brooks (FO)
• Captain Edward Burr (FO)
• Lieutenant Hunter Johnston (FO)

We appreciate the commitment of these individuals to go beyond the career development position requirements and their desire to self-assess while identifying ways to improve in specific areas over the next three-year cycle. Again, congratulations to all of them! We look forward to identifying our third group in the near future.

Garner Fire-Rescue hosted a live burn scenario yesterday on Pagan Road, that allowed us to train with several mutual aid partners and get some good company training accomplished as well. Thanks to Swift Creek Fire, Fairview Fire, Fuquay-Varina Fire, Knightdale Fire, Cleveland Fire and Clayton Fire Depts, as well as Wake EMS and Wake Tech Community College for the participation and assistance. ***LIVE BURN ALERT***

Garner Fire Rescue will be conducting a live fire training ALL DAY today on Standing Oak Lane, off Pagan Road. The training will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

After 5:00 p.m., there may still be some smoke in the area from smoldering debris. Fire department apparatus will remain on site after 5:00 p.m., and crews will continue to stop by and check the property throughout the evening.

There will also be an increased presence of fire trucks in the area throughout the day, including tankers traveling the surrounding roads hauling water to the training site.
