Great NEWS for Gardner as competitive Swimming returns to the city!!!
Don Lemieux, Gardner Massachusetts - What's going on
Very excited for our swim meet June 18-19 we have 700 swimmers in the meet and add at least 2 per family and we are looking at over 2000 people into Gardner. Let’s show these people how special our community is.
Also I have won the bid for the New England 10 and under Championships July 24-25.
Congratulations Don Lemieux and thanks for all you've done over the years in promoting Competitive Swimming in Gardner and throughout the State of Massachusetts!
Please use the page and keep the posts coming! Let's bring swimming back to the City and put Gardner on the map once again!

Interesting to note a Gardner Contractor was willing to repair the roof of the pool for free but was denied by city officials.

Mayor Nicholson had engineers looking at the Greenwood Pool building this week. Let's hope for some good news!

E-mail Mayor-Elect Mike Nicholson after he is inaugurated on Tuesday at his official City of Gardner email address. [email protected]

We are currently launching an all out last ditch effort to save the Greenwood Memorial Pool from the wrecking ball and becoming the future site of a parking lot. Please if you are a friend of this page call your City Councillor or the Mayor and tell them you want to save this historic building. SHARE THIS POST! Ask your friends to join in this last ditch attempt to save the Greenwood! Levi Heywood Greenwood spared no expense in creating this memorial to his parents. The famed Thomas A. Fox & Edward J. Gale of Boston designed The Greenwood Memorial Pool building. Buildings designed by this team are historic treasures that are considered invaluable assets in other cities lucky enough to have a Fox & Gale design within their city limits. They are also the team who designed Gardner's iconic Gardner News building, providing historical continuity in Gardner's architectural landscape. Fox's fame extended beyond his well-known design firm. Fox, who was close friends with John Singer Sargent & godfather to his daughter, was handed the enormous task after Sargent's death of cataloging Sargent's works. This Fox building should stand in Gardner for generations to come, providing our city with historical rootedness to our rich & storied past. Let's work together to save this undeniable historic asset from the wrecking ball! CALL YOU COUNCILLOR! CALL THE MAYOR! Let's not let another piece of Gardner's history disappear forever! "The Gardner Historical Commission was established for the preservation, protection and development of the historical or archaeological assets of the City of Gardner.

The Historical Commission shall conduct researches for places of historic or archaeological value, shall cooperate with the state archaeologist in conducting such researches or other surveys, and shall seek to coordinate the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes, and may advertise, prepare, print and distribute books, maps, charts, plans and pamphlets which it deems necessary for its work.

For the purpose of protecting and preserving such places, it may take such recommendations as it deems necessary to the city council and, subject to the approval of the city council, to the Massachusetts historical commission, that any such place be certified as an historical or archaeological landmark."

Unfortunately the Gardner Historical Commission could not get the former mayor to cooperate and sign the necessary paperwork to get the Greenwood Memorial Building on the National Historic Register. Our only hope is if Mayor Nicholson will sign the paperwork.

My heart was warmed this morning to see so many youth involved in the Greenwood Swim Club swimming program. Thanks Don Lemieux for all you have done for the youth throughout Massachusetts and making swimming a number one priority in their lives which will shape their future in the years to come! Discipline and hard work produces life long results.

This is the reason WE need to save the Greenwood for the Gardner Youth!
