Good evening, community of Gardiner Local 2303.
We don’t post often, but tonight seemed like a perfect opportunity to review some very advanced science and physics.

When it rains all day and the temperature suddenly drops below freezing, the water on roads, sidewalks, and driveways does something truly remarkable: it turns into ice. Ice, for those keeping score at home, is extremely slippery. Remember—objects in motion tend to stay in motion… and ice reduces friction, allowing those objects to stay in motion much longer than intended.

Road crews are working hard clearing downed limbs, power crews are doing their best to keep the lights on, and all of this makes sand and salt application… let’s say challenging. Please use extra caution if you absolutely must travel. Otherwise, staying home and admiring the weather from indoors is a highly recommended life decision.

As always, we’re here if you need us, and like every other crew out there tonight, we’ll do our best to reach and assist you in your time of need. Stay safe—and upright.

As we gather around Thanksgiving tables this coming week, many of us will celebrate with family and friends, enjoying a meal that reflects the abundance of the season.

But for others in our communities, accessing food remains a daily challenge. Across Maine, many individuals and families are struggling to navigate uncertainty about where their next meal will come from.

To help bridge that gap, we created the Maine Food Access Map. We activated it earlier this week, and already, thousands of individuals have used it to find food pantries, meal sites, school-based programs, WIC clinics, and other resources. It’s designed to help people find support quickly, wherever they are.

This Thanksgiving, as we reflect on what we’re grateful for, let’s also remember our neighbors who may need a hand and share this resource widely so everyone in Maine has a place to turn.

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, there will be a car wash fundraiser at the Pittston fire station on route 126 to support Logan Fyfe, a 20-year-old UMaine Farmington student from Pittston. Logan has been selected for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Japan to teach English.

If you’re in the area and would like to support a local student chasing a big dream, stop by and get your car washed—every bit helps!
