Last week, the South Bay Police & Fire Memorial Foundation held its 50th annual Medal of Valor Ceremony🎗️ honoring the very best in public safety service throughout the South Bay.

We are proud to share that Gardena Police Department’s own Officer Laurent Hentges was awarded the prestigious Sustained Superiority Award🎗️ — a recognition reserved for individuals who consistently perform at an exceptional level and make a lasting impact on the profession. 🏆

For more than a decade, Officer Hentges has quietly dedicated himself to making officers safer, better prepared, and more professional in the field. From defensive tactics and use-of-force instruction to mentoring new officers and training law enforcement personnel across California and internationally, his influence reaches far beyond the City of Gardena.

In 2025 alone, Officer Hentges spent over 150 hours training Gardena PD personnel while continuing his patrol duties, SWAT responsibilities, and academy instruction. His work has directly contributed to improved officer readiness, reduced injuries, better decision-making, and safer outcomes for both officers and the community.

What makes Officer Hentges truly special is his humility and commitment to the craft. He has never sought recognition or praise — only the satisfaction of knowing his training helped another officer safely resolve a critical incident.

Officer Hentges represents the very best of Gardena PD and modern policing: professionalism, discipline, innovation, and service above self. 💙

Please join us in congratulating Officer Laurent Hentges on this well-deserved honor.

🚨 DISTRICT #3 NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MEETING 🚨

We’re gearing up for another high-energy Neighborhood Watch Meeting and we want you there. 💙💛

Join us on Thursday, May 21st at GJJIP as we come together to talk public safety, community concerns, and the future of Gardena. These meetings are all about partnership, communication, and keeping our neighborhoods safe.

We will also have special guest speakers from the City of Gardena Finance Department presenting important information regarding the June 2, 2026 Municipal Election and Measure GG — a locally controlled funding measure focused on protecting and improving essential city services right here in Gardena.

This is your opportunity to stay informed, ask questions, and be part of the conversation shaping our city’s future.

Yesterday, the Gardena Police Department came together for our 2026 Employee Appreciation Day — and it was a reminder of what makes this department so special 💙

We barbecued 🔥, had a few contests, and handed out raffle prizes. It was a day dedicated to the people behind the badge and the people behind the scenes who keep this city moving every single day.

We also had the honor of recognizing several outstanding employees, including our Officer of the Year 🏆 Their hard work, sacrifice, and commitment to the community represent the very best of Gardena PD.

Police work is demanding, but days like this remind us that we’re more than coworkers — we’re FAMILY💙.

Thank you Gardena Police Foundation and

🚨 COMMUNITY REMINDER 🚨

We want to remind everyone that stealing or vandalizing political signs is a crime and will not be tolerated in the City of Gardena. 🪧

No matter your political views, residents have the right to peacefully support the candidates and causes they believe in. Removing signs from private property is considered theft and could lead to criminal charges.

Let’s continue to respect one another, respect private property, and keep our community positive and civil. 🤝🏡

If you witness suspicious activity or thefts occurring, please report it to the Gardena Police Department. 📞👮‍♂️

Great conversations, hot coffee, and strong community connections this morning at Coffee with a Cop at Target. ☕️🚔

Events like these remind us what policing is really about; being present, listening, shaking hands, and building relationships with the people we serve every day.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk with our officers, share concerns, ask questions, or simply say hello.

Special thank you to Target for hosting us this morning and helping bring the community together.

During National Police Week🎗️, we recognize the men and women of the Gardena Police Department who proudly serve this city every day.

Gardena is home to us. We still believe in real police work — hard work, integrity, backing your partners, and being there when the community needs you most.

Behind every badge is a person making sacrifices for this profession and this city.

At Gardena PD, we love our employees and take pride in serving our town 🇺🇸 .

Behind every strong officer, detective, records clerk, and staff member… is a mom who helped shape who we are.

The lessons, strength, patience, and love our mothers gave us continue to guide us every day, both in uniform and at home.

Today, the Gardena Police Department celebrates all the moms, grandmothers, stepmothers, wives, and mother figures who built us into the people we’ve become. Thank you for being our first teachers, our biggest supporters, and the reason we learned what compassion and strength truly look like.

Happy Mother’s Day weekend from all of us at the Gardena Police Department. 💙🌷
