Reminder!

Today is the LAST day to sign up for the 26th Annual “Keep Gardena Beautiful Day” AND... don’t miss the Compost Giveaway event tomorrow, Saturday September 12th. Details for both events below:

The 26th Annual Keep Gardena Beautiful Day Citywide Cleanup will be on Saturday, September 19th from 8 AM to 12 PM. We will be cleaning up railroad tracks, sidewalks, community garden, etc. Last year, we had over 450 participants from local schools, churches, businesses and community members participate.
After the cleanup is completed, we will have lunch at Mas Fukai Park along with some raffle prizes. We hope to see you there!

The Compost Giveaway event will be held on Saturday, September 12th at Rowley Park. The entrance will be on Van Ness Ave. Please bring your ID and utility bill. While supplies last.

A reminder that our 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony will be tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. in front of City Hall. This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11th. We hope you can take a few minutes out of your morning to join us as we remember those lost, and honor those who answered the call.

With extreme heat expected again tomorrow in our area, Gardena's Cooling Centers will be available this Wednesday and Thursday for residents to escape the heat and stay cool.

Registration EXTENDED: Registration has been extended to this Friday, September 11, 2026 for the "Keep Gardena Beautiful Day" Citywide Cleanup event. We will be cleaning up the community garden, railroad tracks, sidewalks, and alleys. Please keep an eye out for an email this week with details for t-shirt pick up.

Please note, due to an abundance of caution for the West Nile virus, the Gardena Willows Wetland Preserve location will not be a cleanup location this year.

Clear a little room on that calendar for several Gardena PD events to connect with, and inform you. First up, Neighborhood Watch Meetings so mark your calendar:

The District 1 Neighborhood Watch Meeting led by Lt. Contreras will be held on Thursday, September 10th at 7pm. Location: Rowley Park, 13220 Van Ness Avenue, Gardena CA 90249.

That same evening, Lt. Beerling will host District 2 Neighborhood Watch Meeting. September 10th, at 6:30pm at Serra High School, located at 14830 Van Ness Ave, Gardena CA 90249.

And, Gardena PD is inviting you to join them for the highly-anticipated GARDENA POLICE K-9 PANCAKE BREAKFAST! 📷 Come hungry and help support some of the hardest-working members of the Gardena Police Department—our K-9 Unit!

Join us on Saturday, October 3rd from 8:00–11:00 AM at the Nakaoka Community Center for our annual K-9 Pancake Breakfast. For just $10, enjoy breakfast, meet our K-9s and their handlers, and spend the morning with members of Team Gardena.

100% of the proceeds benefit the Gardena Police K-9 Program, helping provide equipment, training, and resources for our K-9 teams.

Golden State Water Company (GSW) is working to fix a water main break and repair damage to the LA County channel culvert. GSW is completing the engineering and construction permit process with LA County. Once the permit is approved and the repair is completed, the concrete culvert will require approximately 30 days to cure before the street paving restoration can take place.

GSW’s absolute deadline to complete the work within the County’s jurisdiction is October 15, with pavement restoration to follow immediately afterward.

In the meantime, the City is coordinating with Golden State Water Co. to ensure that traffic control measures remain in place and the area remains safe for the public.
