Whoโ€™s afraid of heights? Certainly not this big fluffy cat who was reportedly stuck up in a tree for 2 days prior to calling us for assistance Sunday at Garden Grove Park.

With no luck from our ACOs trying to coax the cat down on his own for two more days, this morning Garden Grove Animal Care Services along with assistance from the Public Works Trees Section, were successfully able to rescue this large fluffy guy who was stuck approximately 45-50 feet high in this large Oak tree.

Animal Control Officer Dominguez along with Public Works Trainee Hernandez safely secured the cat and the cat was taken immediately to our shelter for medical evaluation. The domestic long haired grey and white cat was determined to be in overall good health, and is a neutered male.

Thanks to collaboration, careful planning and precise training, this cat-astrophe was avoided!

This week we have received multiple calls and messages regarding a video circulating on social media depicting alleged animal abuse. Garden Grove Police officers and Garden Grove Animal Control responded promptly and conducted a welfare check to ensure the safety and well-being of the animal.

Phantom, a three to four-month-old puppy, was observed to be alert, active, and in good health at the time of the investigation. At this time, the dog will remain in the care of the family while the case continues to be thoroughly reviewed.

This matter remains an active and ongoing investigation, and we appreciate the communityโ€™s concern and cooperation as we work to ensure the safety and welfare of all animals.

WATER QUALITY NOTIFICATION

Last night around 11:00 pm, the Cityโ€™s water system experienced a high volume of sand infiltration at a well site affecting the lower east side of the City. The City received reports on affected areas North of Westminster Avenue, South of Garden Grove Blvd, East of Brookhurst Street and West of Lewis Street. This includes reports of water quality issues involving murky and discolored water. Sand and discoloration of water poses no health hazard. Since the initial report, City staff responded by shutting down the well and flushing the affected areas through fire hydrants. Throughout the duration of this incident, the Cityโ€™s water quality has met all state and federal primary drinking water standards. Water quality staff has been in the field monitoring and coordinating efforts and performing water testing. With the well shut down, the Cityโ€™s water system has been adjusted to ensure Citywide daily demands are met. At this time, the City is asking the public to flush their homes/businesses through their hose spigot and faucets until the water clears. Begin with the first hose spigot at the front of the building. Turn it on until it is clear. Then work towards next spigot or faucet leading to the back of the property. Thank you for your cooperation.

Call Alexis Santos at 741-5396 if you have any questions.
