Over 100 GGUSD students, staff, administrators, and GGUSD Board of Education Vice President Lan Nguyen participated in the City of Santa Ana Fiestas Patrias parade. The parade and accompanying festival celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day 🎉 and help kickoff National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th through October 15th. GGUSD’s connection 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽to Santa Ana goes deeper than the six schools and the 20% of GGUSD students that live within the city’s limit, it’s a 💪🏽 partnership with the city to help shape the future leaders of the community 👨🏽‍🎓 👩🏼‍🎓.

👟✏️SHOES THAT FIT AT HERITAGE✏️👟

Earlier today, Nordstrom volunteers in partnership with Shoes That Fit delivered a brand-new pair of Nike shoes to every student at Heritage Computer Science Academy!🎒👟 After making sure their shoes were the perfect fit, students got to pick out shoe charms and break in their new kicks with a little dancing💃🏼 Sparky from the LA Sparks even made a surprise appearance to help celebrate and bring even more positive energy!🐶

Heritage Elementary, a proud Community School, focuses on connecting families with resources and support that go beyond the classroom❤️

Thanks to Shoes That Fit and Nordstrom, students not only left with new shoes but also smiles, confidence, and joyful memories that will last all school year!😊🌟

🐾 BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT: Hare High School welcomed families to campus for a great Back to School Night! Families connected with teachers and staff, visited classrooms, and learned more about the programs and support that help Hare students succeed. We love seeing our families engaged and connected to their school community. Thanks to Trustee Teri Rocco who attended to show her support. 💙

Yesterday, Los Amigos High School hosted a Back to School Health Fair that provided care and resources straight to the community! 🐺❤️ Families took advantage of a variety of resources including dental and medical checks, Medi-Cal and CalFresh enrollment support, fresh produce boxes, diapers, toy giveaways, backpack distribution and more.

As one of GGUSD’s amazing Community Schools, Los Amigos is committed to meeting the needs of students and families—because supporting student success means supporting the whole family. Way to go Lobos!

🎓 College planning starts now! GGUSD, in collaboration with Orange County United Way, invites students in grades 4–12 and their families to Demystifying College Myths on Thursday, September 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Doig Intermediate School.

Families will attend grade-level workshops covering:

📚 Building strong scholarly habits in elementary school
🏫 Preparing intermediate students for high school
✅ Understanding college eligibility requirements
🎓 Navigating college applications and financial aid

Workshops will be presented in English, with Spanish and Vietnamese interpretation available. Dinner will be provided, and attendees will have an opportunity to win a free laptop!🎉

🌟 EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH 🌟 Last night, GGUSD’s Board of Education celebrated our September Employees of the Month — Rancho Alamitos High School teacher Anh Than and Excelsior Elementary School Student Supervision Assistant Amber Huffman!

What makes this recognition especially meaningful? Both were nominated by students! 💙

Anh was recognized as an exceptional teacher, coach and mentor who helps students master challenging content and has made a lasting impact at Rancho Alamitos. Amber was recognized for the kindness, positivity and care she brings to Excelsior each day, helping students feel safe, supported and welcome.

Sunnyside Elementary had a fantastic turnout for Back to School Night last week! Families enjoyed classroom visits, connecting with teachers, and delicious tacos and Kona Ice. 🌮🍧📚 We love seeing our school communities come together as staff/teachers work alongside families to support each child in gaining the academic and personal skills for lifelong success!

GGUSD recognizes September as Su***de Prevention Awareness Month and remains committed to the mental health and well-being of our students, staff, and families.💙

In 2019, GGUSD launched Choose Wellness as a way to raise awareness and support for important mental health topics. GGUSD has expanded counseling services, opened Wellness Centers, and provided ongoing support for our school community. 🏫🌱

Trained professionals—including counselors, psychologists, mental health specialists, and social workers—are available on campuses, along with any trusted adult who can help connect students to resources.
