For those of you that missed this information, we wanted to make sure that everyone is aware of the following information regarding siren activation triggers:
1) NWS issued Tornado Warning for the siren's coverage area. This only includes the corporate city limits of Garden City. There are no sirens located in unincorporated Cass County.
2) Confirmed tornado touchdown reported by a trained storm, spotter or other public safety official, when the tornado path will directly affect the siren's coverage area. This is even without an immediate NWS Warning.
3) Radar indications of a strong, rotating storm with an imminent threat to the community.
We hope this helps clarify a few things. And we always strongly suggest a weather radio or becoming a member of the Cass County Emergency Notification and Weather Warning System. https://member.everbridge.net/453003085613061/login

On Monday, April 20, 2026, members of the Garden City Fire Protection District completed an intensive vehicle extrication training class.

Firefighters trained with a variety of extrication tools and techniques used during real-world motor vehicle crashes. The training included:

* Multiple methods of forcing and removing vehicle doors
* Windshield removal for patient access
* Dash displacement (dash roll) techniques when a patient is trapped by the vehicle’s dashboard

This hands-on training helps ensure our firefighters and paramedics are prepared to work efficiently and safely when seconds matter most. Continuous training is essential to providing the highest level of care to our community.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this training a success. We’re proud to serve Garden City and the surrounding area.

We want to say congratulations to one of our own Andy Gross for receiving MEMSA Paramedic of the Year Award.

Thank you Anheuser-Busch and National Volunteer Fire Council for the generous donation of emergency drinking water, and to Missouri Eagle for delivering it to our fire station! This water will help keep our firefighters hydrated during calls for service and extended response in the extreme heat.

They will be doing maintenance and testing the Tornado siren today.

There has been a malfunction with tornado siren. We were not activating them but we have disabled the system until it can be inspected. There is nothing weather related happening at this time.

Just wanted to send out some quick information regarding why we sound the tornado sirens. Sirens are activated when the NWS issues a Tornado Warning that has the potential of impacting our community. If the warning effects an area of a 10-mile radius surrounding Garden City, the sirens will sound. Thanks to everyone for staying weather aware.

High fire danger today. Please no open burning. This would include trash in a burn barrel.

Red Flag Warning for the area today. No open burning today. Even controlled burns can get out of control and spread very quickly.

Wind gusts around 25-35 MPH combined with low humidity and dry vegetation create a favorable environment for fires. Please refrain from burning and do your part to prevent fires. Elevated fire weather concerns continue into Friday.
