Today we pause to remember Firefighter Ronnie W. Peek.

Firefighter Peek was a valued member of the Garden City Fire Department. He proudly served the community for 17 years as a Firefighter and EMT.

He greeted all who crossed the threshold of the station with a warm smile and would offer the shirt off his back if necessary. He was an excellent example of the brotherhood, and always made himself available to lend a helping hand.

Six years have passed, but his stories, laughter, and smile have not faded from our memories.

Rest easy brother.

We are pleased to share that the Honor Guard has announced that First Assembly of God Pastor Nathan Sheridan has been selected to receive the 2019 Keeper of the Flame. We made the surprise announcement in front of the First Assembly of God congregation on Sunday. Nathan was selected by the Honor Guard membership because of his tireless dedication to his community and his unwavering support of the local First Responder community. Join us Saturday May 11, 2019 at the Clarion Inn when we host the 2019 Keeper of the Flame banquet in his honor. Tickets are $60 and are available by contacting this page via messenger, by calling Central Fire Station (620-276-1140), or by contacting any Honor Guard member. Congratulations Nathan!

This past weekend the Garden City Fire Department Honor Guard proudly sent two members to the 37th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service at Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Firefighter II Jeremy Kemp and Lieutenant John Bemis, along with The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and firefighters from over 150 departments across the nation paid tribute to the lives of 80 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2017 and 23 firefighters who died in previous years.

More than 5,000 people, including families, friends, firefighters, members of Congress, and Administration officials are expected to attend. (some image credits belong to National Fallen Firefighters Foundation)

Yesterday marked 17 years since the horrific premeditated attacks on our country. On that day peaceful people stood shoulder to shoulder around the world and watched as evil took aim at good. From the rubble and ash we arose a united nation, stronger than ever. Yesterday, LEO’s, FICo EMS, members of the National Guard & the GCFD stood shoulder to shoulder on the campus of GCCC with Faculty, students and community representatives in remembrance of the lives that were lost that day. We stood united then, we stand united now, and we will never forget.
