We proudly serve all of Ada County by providing and maintaining one of the highest quality transportation systems in the U.S. As the only countywide highway district in Idaho, ACHD manages all of the public streets in Ada County and its six cities, with the exception of state roads. http://bit.ly/achdsocialpolicy

Happy Right of Way Professionals Week!!

If you didn't know that this is a week... you're not alone. And if the term "right of way" is confusing to you... you're certainly not alone.

Here's a quick breakdown:
When we say "right of way," what we mean is areas and infrastructure under a public agency's jurisdiction. ACHD's right of way includes all public roads, sidewalks, and pathways in Ada County, excluding state and private roads. Other agencies have their own right of way- like railroads, canals and dams. Right of way can also include things like wind, water and air rights!

When ACHD plans a road project, there are times when we need to acquire private property to add to our right of way. We also plan years in advance, acquiring right of way for future projects. Luckily our team of right of way professionals help each individual property owner through the process, including making sure that fair market value is provided to the property owner.

Beginning next week, 43rd Street will be closed on the southwest side of Chinden Boulevard for the installation of the new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB). Commuters should use Ustick Road as a detour (see detour map).

The road will close Monday and is expected to reopen by June 25. Chinden Boulevard will remain open with two lanes in each direction.

The work is part of the Chinden Boulevard and 43rd Street Enhanced Crossing Project, which includes installing a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) and raised medians.

The Eagle Rodeo is expected to draw large crowds this weekend. While no roads are closed, flaggers and traffic control will be in place near the event during high traffic times, including along Eagle Road and Highway 16 near Chaparral Road, as well as portions of Chaparral and Willow Creek Roads. Expect heavier than normal traffic and allow extra travel time if you're planning to attend or be in the area. Traffic control is expected to remain in place through Saturday.

With strong winds anticipated to move through valley today, we remind you to BE SAFE! Please drive for conditions and report downed trees by calling us at 208-387-6100 through 4:30pm and non-emergency dispatch at 208-377-6790 after hours.

Should the power go out, traffic signals may also go dark. Should you come across a signal in "dark mode" or "flash mode", please treat the intersection as a four-way stop. In this situation, the signal essentially becomes a stop sign. The first vehicle to arrive has the right of way. If multiple vehicles arrive at the same time, yield to vehicles on the right, then when it's your turn - proceed with caution. Don't forget to stop at the stop bar and watch for pedestrians and bicyclists!

You can report dark traffic signals to the Ada County Dispatch non-emergency line at 208-377-6790. Dispatchers will work with ACHD's on-call staff members to respond to weather-related issues.

We have some rain and wind headed our way over the next couple of days!

⛈️ We're going to keep saying it - USE YOUR HEADLIGHTS! Keeping headlights on keeps you visible and helps you spot other commuters. The "auto" setting doesn't always kick on the lights when it's overcast.

⛈️ Drive carefully, watch out for all commuters, and leave plenty of space between you and the car in front of you.

If you see a downed tree or experience localized flooding, please call us at 208-387-6100 (during business hours M-F 8-4:30pm) and to non-emergency dispatch after 4:30pm at 208-377-6790.

Crews are ready for whatever Mother Nature throws our way!
