Off the Maine coast, this tiny island community has held onto a slower rhythm for more than 400 years, shaped by fishing, artists, cliff trails, and the steady pull of the Atlantic.

Want to learn about gardening? Join our Historic Linthicum Walks 2026 gardening team!

Volunteer while learning sustainable gardening practices to apply in your own garden. No green thumb? That’s ok, you’re still welcome! We need help and we will train you.

Dates: Saturday, May 2, 2026 (from 9:30 am to 12 noon). Additional dates announced soon.

Who: UMD Master Gardener volunteers will guide volunteers. All experience levels welcome!

Plan: Together, we’ll implement a 2026 landscaping plan to prune bushes, tidy flower beds, install native pollinator-friendly perennials, update the Level 1 Arboretum (tree) list, and track the butterflies and birds that call these gorgeous gardens their home.

Before you come: Bring water, gloves, and your favorite gardening pruners or trimmers.

No need to pre-register but please check in with the Master Gardener volunteers when you arrive.

Yesterday, we were fortunate to enjoy a beautiful spring day as we marked the 392nd anniversary of the arrival of the Ark and the Dove, the ships that carried Maryland’s first European settlers to our shores in 1634. Their journey led to the founding of St. Mary’s City, the colony’s first capital, and the beginning of Maryland’s rich and diverse history.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating Maryland Day here at Historic Linthicum Walks! It was a truly lovely occasion, and we were delighted to see our community come together to honor the past while enjoying the present. We’re so grateful to all who came out to make the day special. Thank you again!
