I-97 Safety and Mobility Project Open House

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is hosting a public open house on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bay Area Community Church, Annapolis Campus, 884 Chesterfield Road, Annapolis.

The upcoming I-97 Safety and Mobility Project will focus on reducing congestion and improving safety along I-97 between US 50 and MD 32, as well as nearby roads including MD 2 and MD 3. This stretch of I-97 is one of the state’s worst daily bottlenecks, especially during peak summer travel.

The project includes:

• Adding a travel lane in each direction on I-97 from US 50 to MD 32.
• Upgrading the I-97 northbound bridge over MD 450, also known as Defense Highway.
• Upgrading the northbound and southbound I-97 bridges over Crownsville Road.
• Providing stream restoration and drainage improvements.
Installing new stormwater management facilities to reduce environmental impacts.

At the open house, SHA will have maps, displays, and project information available. SHA representatives will also be on hand to answer questions and receive public feedback. There will be no formal presentation, and attendees may arrive any time between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

If anyone has information about the vandalism that occurred at Ark and Dove Church in Odenton, please share it with police.

On June 17, 2026, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the pictured suspect damaged a "Black Lives Matter" sign and a "Dismantle Racism" sign at the Arc and Dove Presbyterian Church located at 8424 Piney Orchard Parkway in Odenton. Anyone with information on this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Western District Detective Unit at 410-222-8760 or via email at [email protected].

As the polls closed this evening, I want to thank every candidate that put their name on the ballot in the primary. It takes a lot to run a campaign and put yourself in the public domain.

I want to take a moment to thank my family, especially Roxanne Hendershot Pruski, and my kids for supporting me through this election. Elections are never easy and sacrifice occurs. I appreciate my family and extended family for always being there.

Also, thank you to every volunteer and campaign staff member that did the hard work for the campaign. Special thanks to Jennifer Garcia for AADCC District 33, Scott Howarth, and Cayden Devers for helping doing the work that makes the trains run on time.

I also appreciate all the members of Team 33 that helped make a difference. I appreciate you and your service.

While results will come in shortly, I am humbled by the encouragement and support I received. Thank you to the texts, phone calls, posts, and emails that help drive my motivation to serve.

Even at 6am, 6pm, or somehow doing it anyway, we are here to work for you.

Tomorrow is Primary Election Day: Do you have a plan to vote? Polling locations are open from 7am-8pm. If you are still in line to vote at 8pm, STAY IN LINE. If you are in line, you will be allowed to cast your ballot.

If you have a mail-in-ballot, consider dropping them off at a secured ballot drop box BEFORE 8PM!

Juneteenth is the one of the oldest known commemorations related to the abolition of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth National Independence Day was signed into law as a national holiday in June 2021.
