Happy Earth Day from the Galveston Island Beach Patrol family!

Help us keep the planet and our beaches clean and beautiful by picking up your trash when you leave. We have numerous blue trash cans placed along the beach to make this easy.

Galveston Island Beach Patrol Junior Lifeguard Day Camp Program is available for sign up. The dates of the camp are between June 1st - July 10th, 2026.

We would like to invite youths between the ages of 10 and 15 to consider participating in our camp. Which provides an opportunity to gain water safety training and hands-on lifeguarding experience.

To participate, youths should have an interest in the beach environment, must be able to swim two laps (100 meters) without stopping, and be able to tread water for five to seven minutes depending on their age category.

We have more tryout dates coming up! Our soonest is on May 1st at 9 AM at the UTMB Field House (215 Holiday Dr, Galveston, TX 77550).

You can start working with us at 16 years old, and no experience is needed. We will teach you all the certifications required in our two-week paid lifeguard academy.

We hope to see you at the next tryout!

Our application is now open. We are looking to hire 100 lifeguards. You must be able to swim 500 meters in less than 10 minutes and pass our Lifeguard Academy. Starting age is 16 years old. No prior training is required. Our starting pay is $18 per hour, with an additional $2 per hour if you surpass 500 hours during the season. We look forward to seeing all the new and returning faces on the first day of our season, March 7th.

Earlier this week, some of our staff were officially promoted into their new positions! We would like to congratulate our new Chief Austin Kirwin, Lieutenant Dain Buck, and Sergeant Jeff Mullin! Thank y’all for your constant dedication to protecting and serving our beaches and communities.

We would also like to remind everyone of our Mission Statement: To provide professional lifeguard services to the City of Galveston’s beaches and waterways by ensuring safety through prompt response to aquatic emergencies, proactive prevention, public education, and enforcement.
