On this day in 1946, the first bikini bathing suit was displayed in Paris. Galveston, often pioneering, hosted the Pageant of Pulchritude, an international beauty pageant, from 1926 to 1935. This coming Saturday will showcase the Bathing Beauties Contest as part of the Galveston Island R***e Weekend. 🩱

Join us for Beachcombing for Fossils with Charlie Spreckelsen as he presents an evening of free family fun showing young explorers how to search for hidden treasures in the sand. Every child will receive a free shark tooth necklace while supplies last. Recommended for children of all ages. No registration required.

Adult Summer Reading Program Giveaway! 🌞📚❗️

We have 30 free tickets to Katherine Center’s upcoming author talk on June 13 at The Grand 1894 Opera House! These tickets include admission, a special edition copy of her new book, “The Shippers” and the book signing occurring afterward. (An amazing opportunity brought to you in collaboration with the Then & Now Bookshop!)

How to win: Individual tickets will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis at our second-floor Reference Desk! Stop by in person, mention the event, and one of our team members will take care of the rest. Exciting news! 🎟️ Our Children’s Department is participating in the Ringling Brother Reading Program this summer, which includes an opportunity to go to the circus!

If your child reads five or more books, they are eligible to receive a stamp to redeem a free ticket to see a family-friendly thrilling performance of "The Greatest Show On Earth" from Aug. 6-9 at NRG Stadium in Houston!

Important things to note:
🎪 Parents must purchase an adult ticket.
🎪 The free voucher can only be redeemed in person at NRG’s box office either in advance beginning July 15 or the day of the show. Box office hours are available on the NRG Park website.
🎪 Seats cannot be reserved online.
🎪 Children 2 and under are no charge, therefore they are not eligible for this program.

We're thrilled to partner with Compudopt to host their Teens Learn2Earn program, which connects teens with real-world computer programs and tech so they can learn about education and employment opportunities.

Requirements:
💻 Register by 6 PM this Sunday!
💻 Students MUST be in grades 9-12.
💻 Includes 10 mandatory classes that will occur every Monday starting next week through August.
💻 Must commit to and complete all 10 classes to be eligible for the free laptop.
