Celebrating partnership, stewardship, and history 🌿

As our nation marks its 250th anniversary, we’re also recognizing 80 years of the Bureau of Land Management and the incredible role they play in caring for public lands across the country.

Here at the Cosumnes River Preserve, partnership is everything. We’re proud to work alongside the Bureau of Land Management and many other partners to protect critical habitat, support wildlife, and ensure this special place remains accessible for generations to come.

From wetland restoration to wildlife management and public access, this work doesn’t happen alone—it happens through collaboration, dedication, and a shared commitment to stewardship.

Here’s to the power of partnership and the people who make it all possible 💚

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

Sometimes the best reset is as simple as stepping outside. Places like the Cosumnes River Preserve offer space to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect—with nature and with yourself.

Whether it’s a quiet walk beneath the trees, watching birds along the wetlands, or just taking a moment to listen to the wind, time in nature can help reduce stress, improve mood, and bring a sense of calm in our busy lives.

This month, we encourage you to take a break, get outside, and explore the natural spaces around you. Your mind will thank you.

As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation and recognize April as National Volunteer Month, we want to give a huge shoutout to the incredible volunteers at the Cosumnes River Preserve 💚

From habitat restoration and wildlife monitoring to community science and education, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Your dedication helps protect this special place for future generations—and we truly couldn’t do it without you.

We’re proud to be part of the Freedom 250 Volunteer Celebration, an initiative led by the Bureau of Land Management with support from the Foundation for America’s Public Lands, encouraging people across the country to give back to the public lands they love.

Whether you give a few hours or hundreds, every moment makes a difference—and we love our volunteers for it!

Interested in getting involved? There are so many ways to join us this year and be part of something meaningful.

It’s officially nesting season at the Cosumnes River Preserve, and our nest boxes are already full of activity!

Recently, we found a wood duck and even a barn owl making use of our nest boxes—an exciting reminder of how important these structures are for wildlife.

From ducks to owls, many cavity-nesting species rely on safe spaces to raise their young. That’s where our dedicated volunteers come in—regularly monitoring boxes, collecting data, and helping ensure these birds have the best chance at success.

💚 This work wouldn’t be possible without our amazing volunteer team!

If you’re out on the trails, please give nesting areas space and help us keep wildlife safe during this critical time of year.
