As we enjoy the summer season, it’s important to keep safety in mind. Emergencies can happen quickly, and it is common for people to freeze in the moment. Learning a few basic first aid and water safety skills ahead of time can help you feel more prepared and confident if something unexpected happens.

Drowning prevention is especially important during the summer months. Children should always be closely supervised around water, even if they have had swimming lessons. Drowning can happen quickly and quietly, and residential pools, lakes, rivers, and other natural waters all come with risks.

A few important reminders:

• Supervise children closely and constantly around water.
• Use life jackets when boating or around natural water.
• Do not rely on floaties or air-filled toys as safety devices.
• Avoid alcohol while swimming, boating, or supervising children near water.
• Swim with a buddy whenever possible.
• Be aware of weather, currents, visibility, and other hazards in natural waters.
• Consider extra precautions for medical conditions or medications that may affect balance, coordination, or alertness.
• Learn CPR. These skills can save a life while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

First aid and CPR videos are a great way to review the basics, but they are not a replacement for hands-on training. If possible, consider taking a first aid, CPR, swimming, or water safety course.

A little preparation can go a long way in helping everyone have a safer summer.

Safe Sleep Saves Lives 💙

Remember the ABCs of safe sleep:
Alone – Baby sleeps alone, without blankets, pillows, or toys
Back – Always place baby on their back
Crib – Use a firm, flat sleep surface like a crib or bassinet

Share a room. Don’t share a bed.
A safe sleeping space helps protect your baby every night.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental health is an important part of overall health and well-being. This month is a reminder to slow down, check in with yourself, and check in on the people around you.

Life can feel overwhelming at times, and many people experience stress, anxiety, depression, or difficult seasons. Support is available, and reaching out for help is a sign of strength.

Practicing self-care can be a helpful first step. Self-care may look like taking a walk, getting enough rest, journaling, limiting screen time, doing something you enjoy, or talking with someone you trust.

You do not have to go through hard times alone. If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Your mental health matters. Take care of yourself, and remember that help is available.
