In Tennessee, drivers 🚙 must stop when they approach a school bus 🚌 that is stopped on a roadway with its red lights flashing🚨and stop arm 🛑 extended to pick up or drop off children.
Key points:
• You must stop whether you’re coming from the front or behind the bus.
• On a two-lane road, all traffic in both directions must stop.
• On a multi-lane road with no median, all lanes must stop.
• On a divided highway with a physical median, only traffic going in the same direction as the bus must stop (traffic on the opposite side can continue).
You must remain stopped until:
• The bus starts moving again, or
• The driver signals you to proceed, or
• The red lights stop flashing.
Violating this law can lead to significant fines and penalties because it’s considered a serious safety risk.
