August was BUSY at the Sumner County Emergency Communications Center!

Throughout the month, our telecommunicators handled a combined 55,243 calls between calls for service and phone activity.

Just how much is 55,243 calls? That averages out to approximately:

12,473 calls per week
1,782 calls per day
74 calls per hour
1.2 calls every minute
1 call every 49 seconds

And behind every number is a person. Someone calling for help, an officer requesting assistance, a first responder needing information, or one of the countless other communications that move through our center every day.

TELECOMMUNICATOR OF THE QUARTER

We may be just a little late with the public recognition portion of this award… as in, we’re getting dangerously close to handing the title off to the next person. But we absolutely could not let Allie’s time as Telecommunicator of the Quarter pass without giving her the recognition she deserves!

Allie was selected for this honor because of the professionalism, dependability, and positive attitude she consistently brings to the ECC. She comes to work prepared, stays calm when things get difficult, and provides compassionate, professional service to the people who call us for help.

But what really makes Allie special is the teammate she is behind the scenes. She is always willing to answer questions, jump in to help, support her coworkers, and look for ways to make things run a little more smoothly for everyone. She has earned the trust of both her coworkers and supervisors, and her willingness to step up does not go unnoticed.

In a job where so much of the work happens without the public ever seeing the person behind the headset, we think our people deserve their moment in the spotlight, even if we are a quarter late turning the spotlight on.

Congratulations, Allie, on being named Telecommunicator of the Quarter! Thank you for the professionalism, kindness, teamwork, and dedication you bring to Sumner County ECC. We are incredibly lucky to have you on our team!

Our CORE (Community Outreach, Recruitment & Education) Team had a great time in Portland participating in the Teddy Bear ER Clinic with TriStar Portland ER!

This hands-on event gave children the opportunity to take their new teddy bear through the different steps of an emergency room visit. From check-in to treatment, the children learned what they could expect during a healthcare visit—all in a friendly, welcoming, and not-so-scary environment.

And, of course, no community event is complete without a little fun! The kids enjoyed face painting, a Touch-a-Truck experience, and even some balloon artistry!

We were proud to join an incredible group of community partners, including:
TriStar Portland ER
VIP Children's Clinic
Portland Fire Department
Sumner County EMS
Sumner County Sheriff's Office

Events like this are a great way to introduce children to emergency services and healthcare professionals in a positive setting. By helping children understand what to expect before they ever need emergency care, we can help reduce fear and build confidence when it matters most.

A huge thank-you to everyone who helped make this event possible! We loved being part of such a fun and meaningful day in the Portland community.

Help us congratulate our two newest Communications Training Officers, Jennifer & Kelsie!

These two recently completed their CTO classroom training and are ready to take the next step into one of the most important roles in our ECC....training their coworkers & our new hires!

Being a CTO means more than teaching someone how to answer 911 calls or work the radio. They are mentors, coaches, leaders, and often the first ones our employees turn to as they learn how to navigate the challenging and crazy world of 911.

Congratulations, ladies! We are so proud of you and can't wait to watch you rock your new position!

The ever-coveted Stork Award has been issued today!

With exactly TWO WEEKS of solo call taking under his belt, our very own Dustin Weatherford got a call he won't soon forget!

On Saturday, August 22nd, Dustin answered a 911 call and talked a woman through the birth of a baby girl!
Dustin did an outstanding job, remaining calm and professional while guiding the caller through a pretty incredible moment. Talk about getting thrown into the deep end early in your career!

We are incredibly proud of Dustin and so glad to have him on our team.

This past Saturday, some of our Sumner County Emergency Communications Center team traded their headsets and computer screens for some fresh air and a group workout at Miracle Park!

A HUGE thank you to Certified Personal Trainer Andrew Kiesle for volunteering his time to lead us through a fantastic workout focused on movement, mobility, strength, and overall wellness. Andrew created a workout that was approachable for all fitness levels, while still reminding us the next day that we definitely have muscles we forgot about.

Working in 911 means long hours, high-stress situations, lots of time behind a console, and carrying the weight of other people's worst days. Taking care of our physical and mental health isn't just important, it's essential. Getting outside, moving our bodies, laughing together, and connecting with one another away from the consoles is one more way we can invest in the people behind the headset.

We're incredibly grateful to Andrew for investing in our team and helping us prioritize wellness in a profession where it's far too easy to put ourselves last.

We are already looking forward to the next one!
