Traffic on East Fremont St between Harrison St & Russell Avenue is closed due to an emergency. Please avoid the area and make travel arrangements accordingly.

Family Court is accessible from Harrison St direction.

This closure could last as long as 24 hours per Ameren.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Structure Fire at 2187 Sodhi Ave.

Galesburg. IL (May 29th, 2026)
The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 2187 Sodhi Ave. yesterday afternoon, May 28th, 2026, at 4:33 P.M. The response included all three stations and the 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke emanating from the residence and flames within the kitchen. Battalion Chief Dewey Brackett established command and the Fremont Station fire crew made an initial attack with a hose line, extinguishing the fire. No occupants or pets were found within the structure and no injuries were reported.

An emergency callback of off duty personnel was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the City. Fire damage was contained to the kitchen and living room of the residence with smoke damage throughout the residence. Galesburg Fire Department Investigators determined the fire to be unintentional. The American Red Cross assisted the residents after the incident.
