What is being an election judge like?
Several election judges say, "It's fun! I get to see everybody. The only time I get to see a lot of people is when I help voters."
Election Judges are paid to manage the precinct polling place and assist voters. Judges share these responsibilities:
1. Arrive at 5:30 a.m. on Election Day to set out supplies;
2. Open the polls on time at 6 a.m. on Election Day;
3. Issue the correct ballot to each voter and help voters with questions from 6 a.m. through 7 p.m.
4. Completing all reports after the polls close.
Election Judges earn $175.00. Payment is based on the completion of training and service on Election Day. New election judges work with multiple experienced election judges.
There are 17 openings for March 17, 2026. Learn more and click here to apply online: https://www.ci.galesburg.il.us/government/elected_officials___election_offices/galesburg_elections_commission/how_to_become_an_election_judge.php

The City of Galesburg does not have an election on November 4, 2025. During odd-numbered years, such as 2025, there is one election, which was held in April 2025 for mayor, city clerk, alderpersons in Wards 2, 4 & 6, township supervisor, township assessor, and school board candidates.
In July 2025, new voter cards were mailed to 17,807 registered voters in the city limits of Galesburg. In Illinois, a voter ID card is not required to vote; however, it does provide information on your polling place location and voting districts. The card can be helpful if there is a question about your voter registration, address, or signature. If you have not received your voter card printed in June/July 2025, call the office at (309) 345-3660.
The 2026 Primary Election will include federal, state, and local contests on the ballot. The election will be on March 17, 2026.
