In honor of Mental Health Awareness month, the Knox County Housing Authority held its 3rd annual Mental Health Resource fair at Moon Towers on Thursday, May 14. Organizations gathered to share information on services and highlight available mental health resources. Mental health awareness is pivotal in helping to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health issues, and events like this can help encourage more people to seek treatment and support.

Our agency would like to extend a sincere thank you to the following organizations for participating: Birth to Five Illinois, Graham Medical, Carl Sandburg College, Thrive, All Stars Sports Academy, WIRC, OSF Healthcare, Bridgeway, Knox County Health Department/Knox Community Health Center, WISE Deflection Initiative, and Central Illinois Friends.

In support of Mental Health Awareness Month, tenants at Brentwood Manor were invited to attend “Let’s CHALK about it”. Hosted by Knox County Housing Authority’s Mental Health Resource Manager, Bailey Jackson, this event celebrated, “Chalk the Town”, an initiative by the Knox County Health Department and Knox Community Health Center encouraging community support of mental health awareness. Last week, residents decorated the patio play area with positive messages and inspirational drawings using sidewalk chalk!

Our agency is always happy to contribute to these community efforts and would like to say thank you to all residents who participated.

KCHA is grateful for our partnership with the City of Galesburg, CoG Transit, and the Galesburg Community Foundation.

Access matters. For families in housing, reliable transportation can mean getting to work, school, medical appointments, the grocery store, community services, and everyday responsibilities that many people take for granted.

Through the support of GCF and CoG Transit, free bus passes are helping remove that barrier for KCHA families.

In April alone, KCHA families used 1,722 total rides:

1,599 adult rides
123 youth rides for children 13 and up

That is 1,722 connections to opportunity, stability, and independence.

Thank you to the Galesburg Community Foundation, the City of Galesburg, and CoG Transit for investing in practical solutions that make a real difference for local families. We appreciate your partnership and your commitment to keeping our community connected.
